View Full Version : Is this a way to custom bosses

I read through a tutorial on custom bosses.
I think I have the gist of it.

For a simple stationary boss this is what I do:

1. Create some tiles which are damage combos and boss graphics.
2. Create a weak point with a gibdo underneath it.
3. Set room rule to "enemy->secret".
4. Make the secret having all floor tiles turn to "insta-warp" It goes to another room with the boss 1 unit weaker.
5. After all the rooms you warp to a "enemy death" room with graphics to show it.
6. You finally go to an empty room with no boss.
Caveats, I didn't use layers and you can see the gibdo.
Is there a way to make it so there is an enemy at the weak point but I don't have to give it up other places since its graphic would be different?


How will the shutters work?
What about the room on the other side?
Can I have 1 way shutters leading only out of this room?

I don't know how to make a moving custom boss though.
How similar is it to this?

You basically have it down. However, rather than use an enemy, put flags on the boss (like slash, burn, etc.). In the room where's he dead, out in an open door instead of a shutter. And use side warps to get into the next room.

That does make sense.
I do have 3 more questions.
First is moving bosses.
In a list of questions from 2002.

I read about it but it didn't make sense.
It seems to be that the movement has to be constant and not random.
Is there even a way to make it random?
Second, can I have a custom boss have custom attacks?
In castlevania there mummies that shoot bandages.
Can I implement that?
Finally, in the same list of questions Cloral was talking that if you use layers you can only have 1 overworld.
Is that true?
I need 2 of them to do my quest.

Just switch to a 2.5 build at www.shardstorm.com. All of them should have enemy editors, and room for about 122 custom ones. I once made a L3 Moblin, and it shot arrows like no tomorrow. They were easily blocked the Small Sheild, however.
