castlevania 3 lower path destination

I am at the sunken city in CV3.
I can't beat that level but I want to know where it goes.
Does it go to the basement/dungeon at the same place the middle path goes?
Since it is supposed to be harder maybe it goes even further down in the basement.

You could try using the Debug menu to skip to the level maybe.

If you avoid the sunken city, you get to play one last small section of Alucard's stage before reaching the underground catacombs. Beating the catacombs leads to the mine section. If you do beat the sunken city, it takes you directly to the mines. After that you go onto Dracula's Castle proper.

I always take the sunken city route though because the music for that stage is awesome. I guess because it directly links the room after Alucard's fight to the mines, its a shorter but harder route. If you take the other route, you have to continue through Alucard's level for another section before proceeding to the next real level.
