Quote: The ground is so hot in one part of Southern California it can melt the shoes right off your feet.

An unexplained "thermal anomaly" caused a patch of land in Ventura County, just north of Los Angeles, to reach a temperature of over 800 degrees on Friday, baffling experts who have been monitoring the area for weeks.

--------------------------------------------

Yep... that's hot. Not sure I'd want to live in Ventura County at this point. Let's hope the anomaly stays limited and doesn't spread to heavily populated areas.

Wow, strange. We haven't had out of the ordinary temperatures here this summer, so I wonder why it's only been noticed this year.

You know, it reminds me of this.

Absolutely crazy - a coal mine has been on fire under the town for 46 years.

I've seen it. There's smoke constantly billowing from the ground. It's really cool.

I've seen it too. I was on vacation there a few years ago. Took a tour of the mines and the railroad they had around there. Pretty awesome, I guess.

Wow, that's right near where I live. From the sounds of it, its along the way into the condor sanctuary north of Fillmore.

My guess is that they're right about it being a subterranean oil fire. There's a good bit of hydrocarbons in the ground around here. Heck, the mountain north of where I live is called Sulfur Mountain because it always smells of the stuff.

Somewhere in near earth orbit a spaceship with a giant magnifying glass has a load of aliens laughing their asses off. If in fact, they have asses.
