Can any kind and noble soul (Or soul-bearer of any other auric color... :p ) recommend to me from the most creative and favorable parts of their heads, ... a platformer game from any age or era that features an editor?

(A platformer with an editor, if you don't like to read.)

Many thanks. :) I immediately already have several ideas. Jetpack, Abuse, (Awkward editor, that.) and I'm sort of hoping for a Cave Story editor more capable and less similarly awkward than those that already exist.

Man.. I remember an old-school Gameboy game with an editor. It was kinda limited though. You could make one screen levels and place keys. I don't think you could even jump. This is not my favorite by any means, but it is the only built in one I can think of off of the top of my head.

You could also be a bad enough dood and download Lunar Magic for Super Mario World. It is a nice full range editor (Everything from levels to overworld map, to graphics and palettes), but the community for it is full of stuck up ass holes.

I'd reccommend Happyland Adventures. (http://www.freelunchdesign.com/games.php?id=2)
You can't change the sprites or anything, but the editor itself is fairly robust, if you actually learn it. (If you're initially underwhelmed, just read the documentation)

Didn't some of the older Lode Runner games have a level editor built in? I think I remember doing that back in the day with a friend once. Tobias, was that the game you were talking about or is there something else entirely?

Jetpack was one of my favorites though. My buddy and I would go back and forth making levels and challenging the other to beat them. Good times.

If I remember right, the Lode Runner series has the ability for level editing. As mentioned earlier, Lunar Magic is good for poking around a copy of Super Mario World. I just went through come of my computer games, and remembered that Jazz Jackrabbit 2 comes with a fully featured level editor. I almost forgot I had that game :0 Hello 1999... lol

Two I play pretty often:

Super Mario War (http://smw.72dpiarmy.com/):
SMB multiplayer deathmatch.
The latest version on the website is the 1.7 April Fools' Edition, but the new 1.8 beta can be found in this forum thread:
http://forum.72dpiarmy.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8843
Definitely get 1.8; they've added an absolute ton of new stuff since 1.7 (such as the new "world" mode, which is basically a tournament played via an SMB3-style overworld map).

Nebulous (http://toppler.sourceforge.net/):
Open-source port of old tower-climbing game Nebulus, a.k.a. Tower Toppler, a.k.a. Castelian.
Comes with 40 or so new levels, in addition to the original game's 16. Ball's levelsets are especially tricky...

Super Mario War would be perfect if they had online play.

Thanks for the replies, though I'm not really looking for anything multiplayer.

Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project. (http://www.geocities.com/dukempmaps/DNEP.html) A 2D platformer rendered in 3D. If you make a map-pack for this, I will love you until your dying day.

Ah yes, I had that. Was kinda fun. Got so monotonous though. :shakeno: Couldn't figure out the editor much, but I really couldn't be arsed, when the gameplay is all the same.
