I just cannot find this old game, mainly because I barely remember anything about it. Maybe someone here will magically know what I'm talking about.

It was a PC game from the early-mid nineties. It took place in the future on a planet covered entirely by the ocean. Everyone lived in these big cities on the ocean floor. You are some kind of mercenary guy with an underwater ship and you get caught up in this adventure and have to fight the bad guys.

The gameplay is that of a turret shooter. You ride in the ship without controlling it, and you have to blast (with lasers) different enemies as you travel the underwater environments. You use the mouse to aim the crosshairs at enemy ships that are attacking you.

There are 2D animated cutscenes that look kind of like a mix between anime and american shows like transformers and x-men. Your guy is sort of stocky and looks older, maybe in his 40's.

That's all I can remember. I will be so, so happy if someone knows what the hell I'm talking about. Some random friend loaned it to me in High School (circa 1996) and I've never heard of it since. I would LOVE to find it again.

I plugged in your basic description on Google and got a match that makes me think it's Archimedean Dynasty / AquaNox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AquaNox). I'd be surprised if that's not it. :)

Yeah, but that's the thing: It's not Aquanox!

From Aquanox:

Hudak, Chris (1997-01-14). "In all honesty, the mind-boggling array of tactical options and general open-endedness of the game's objectives will be very confusing to some players - not to mention the fact that the people who were responsible for outlining the player's objectives should be lined up against a wall and cream-pied - but it's this very open-endedness which makes Archimedean Dynasty so absorbing.", gamespot.com.

This doesn't describe my game at all. It's just a mouse based turret shooter on rails. You follow the story and basically make no decisions. I'm dying to find this game!

I'm not trying to de-rail your thread, honestly. Your description of the "mystery game" was for some odd reason intriguing to me. So I googled a mouse based turret shooter on rails (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=a+mouse+based+turret+shooter+on+rails&btnG=Google+Search). I got lost in the first link on the page...which is http://www.1000addictinggames.com/

I hope you find your game. I have no idea what it is, but I'd like to play it.

I'll have to finish playing all the cool games on that site first, though. ;)

I think it was Alexmax who once posted a thread including a link to some guys who would receive a description of a game, just like the one you posted, and would do their best to return a list of matching games.

I actually tried it out, and they hit the nail on the head on their first try. :) I wish I could remember the link. Or even the name of the thread it was in.

It's not Archimedean Dynasty or Aquanox. :(

The gameplay is VERY similar to This Game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP4Y5Mx1Tc0), except the cutscenes are not 3D, they are cartoonish. But the gameplay is similar: a futuristic turret shooter on rails.

Also, there are segments of the game where you play as the character from a first person perspective. It's still on rails though. He moves, you shoot.

I hope I can find this game. I'm trying to track down that kid from my high school to see if he remembers it.

It didn't do that for me.

Depending on your settings, google will link you first to places youve seen already. If this is the case, then you are GOOGLE-BANNED!
