The fourth of July (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_of_July) is the second most important day of the year, right after the celebration of the birth of my Lord and Savior.

I plan on drinking large quantities of beer and blowing up a small part of the country that I love so dearly. I have over $300 worth of fireworks at my disposal, so this should be fun. :sb:

It's also the first Independence Day that my son will remember, so it's even cooler.

Anyone else celebrating in style?

I'm getting off work at 11pm and partying with a coworker, and then going back to work at 8 am.

Buying fireworks is inefficient. Why don't you just light your $20 bills on fire directly?

Anyway, this country doesn't stand for much that I admire anymore, so forget 4th of July. It's just another sweet government mandated holiday. I plan to eat some food, putter around the house, and purposely block out the meaning of the occasion, as our slow descent into a culture of fat, soft-minded, lawsuit happy, semi-literate, bleeding heart socialist ninnies depresses me.

For those who don't feel like reading long and boring discussions, just read the next line:

I'm going to drink myself into oblivion.

As for the rest:

I plan to celebrate. I don't have to, and that's a good reason to. What I mean is this - corrupt states often compel people to participate in parades, applaud for dictators who opress them, and force them to make nationalist statements at the barrel of a gun. The fact that Beldaran has the freedom to putter around doing nothing while I have the freedom to truly enjoy myself and reflect on liberty - and the cost of that liberty - gives me a reason to actually enjoy the holiday.

Blow up some green plastic army men for me guys. Happy 4th.

Fireworks aren't a waste of money if you're having fun with your family and friends.

My fourth of July will be spent working. As an added bonus since I work in a bad city, all through the night I get to listen to all the residents firing all types of firearms.

That sucks. I feel sorry for you. That's not the country that I live in. I see things every day in my community that renew my faith in my country, as a whole.

The current ruling class does not impress me, nor do I see my government doing any of the things I feel need to be done anytime soon, but that has nothing to do with my country. That would be John Q. Public I'm speaking positively of. ;)

I'm with Zaph on this one. Plus, I feel that it's always worth celebrating a holiday that stands for the hope for the future, that one day the country you live in may come to prosper in the truly great way that you hope it will. (And this attitude can go for people of any political leaning.)

Man I feel bad. On Canada day, I just sat around the house and played guitar hero. I wanted to do something but I don't know any body around here so I had no one to hang with.

Yesterday was St-Jean Baptiste day in Quebec. It's technically Quebec's birthday, but most Quebecers use it as an excuse to get drunk. I find it lame that you need an excuse to get drunk.

But have a happy, alien free independence day everybody!

My two-year old son seems to prefer the fireworks, as do I. ;)

I don't get to celebrate it this year. Those jerks at the hotel where I work at are having some big 4th of July weekend event and I work from 9AM to midnight today. So no chance to shoot off fireworks for me. I don't even get to light any of the ones they're shooting off at work! Dammit.....

I am actually in a mini-vacation in Virginia for a friend's wedding on Saturday. Since we are outside Washington DC, we are going to attempt to catch fireworks there tonight. Should be pretty cool.

Happy 4th everyone!

A really good friend of mine is getting married today. Other than the maid-of-honor and the best man, I'll be the only friend of her's at the actual wedding because I'm the photographer. The forecast for today here in Newark, Ohio?

"Cloudy with a few showers. Areas of dense fog. High around 70F. Winds NE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%."

At least I have a jacket to go over my dress, in case it rains.

So after the wedding, there's the reception. So I'll likely get drunk off of my ass, and celebrate with cheap smoke bombs and sparklers because we're a bunch of broke bitches.

It'll be fun, regardless :)

A box of Dr.Coke and some airsoft. Actually, I should go do some laser tag, that would be rad.

Sadly enough, I'm home alone today. </emo>

Cooking up some BBQ ribs and lighting stuff on fire, that's my plan. Personally, though, I'm of the opinion that we should all toke up on the 4th, in commemoration of the fact that our founding fathers would be utterly baffled to discover that marijuana is illegal.

We are going west one county ovre because there is no fireworks ban there. My cousin is going to get there around 8 pm and is bringing a SUV full of fireworks. And we are going to light them practically all at once once it gets dark.
That and a full out Cajun-Creole feast. I love my heritage.

You know you can make a bomb out of sparklers and duct tape that can blow up a small fishing boat? Yeah, think about that today, and let me know if anyone does it. Video perferably.

Today, a small family BBQ then it's off to the Phillies game. Tomorrow, a larger family BBQ then it's off to a friend's housewarming party (or maybe vice-versa, don't know for sure yet).

I almost accidentally discovered that last year. I had a bunch of sparklers that I didn't know what to do with, so I tried to bundle them together. I didn't have any duct tape, though. Nonetheless, wow, that was some retina-burning excitement. I'd go try it this year if it weren't for the fact that for some reason, sparklers are more expensive this year (last year, you could get a three-pack for like $1, but now it's $2 for one box).

The lady is working somewhat late and I'm trying to time my grilling to greet her at the door. I'd like to go see the fireworks but the good ones start at about 8:30 and it's 20 miles or so away down the Mo-Pac Expressway, which during a high-interest event means it's something like 45 minutes to an hour and a half away. I don't think we'll make it.

Also, with respect to the comparison between fireworks and lighting your $20 on fire, I think you're trying too hard to troll Beldaran. When you can take a $20 and make it fly about 20 feet in the air then explode 288 times, emit showers of sparks, create bright flashes, then fly 50 feet in the air and make floral blossoms a dozen times, I'll agree with you. Otherwise, I'd say my mileage is better converting the money into fireworks.

Hmm, I think you might be on to something there. Just need to remember not to get so smashed I forget about the delicious ribs that are currently cooking.

Rock, if Desperado here manages to get so smashed that you forget about the ribs, well... I honestly don't know what that would mean.

LOL, ah, ambiguous pronouns (or rather, lack of any pronouns at all). At any rate, I would imagine that it means that Desperado has gotten so drunk that it's become contagious.

Maybe he's so drunk that the amount of alcohol in his breath is enough to make you drunk as well. That would surely lead quickly to his death.

Had BBQ for dinner already, and I'll watch the big fireworks display that is right by my house. I pretty much just have to walk outside into my back yard to see it. I think it's important to celebrate the 4th as it's an actually significant event. Unlike many other holidays and events. Plus you can't go wrong with good food and explosives to enjoy.

Earlier in the day, I helped pick weeds out of the lawn and driveway. Pretty uninteresting, except that I got sunburned pretty bad on my arms, legs, back, and neck. Other than the pain, I loafed around all day and watched a fireworks show on TV a little over an hour ago.

I had a total of seven people at my party, including my two year old son.

That was the most fun I've had in years. My boy stayed up for the whole show and loved every minute of it. He kept saying "Wow!" It was priceless.

Out of all the fireworks I bought, I have firecrackers, bottle rockets, sparklers and snakes left.

It was one heck of a show. :D

I'm very tired and my ears are ringing. Goodnight, Gracie.

The fireworks the hotel set off were impressive. A little off on the timing because of a technical difficulty, but they were impressive nonetheless. This weekend also marks the hotel's 120th anniversary. :kitty:
