I propose we have a texas hold em tournament between forum members. We'll have to pick a time, date, and game program.

We tried to do this a few years ago. I don't think we were able to do it for some reason. I love watching/playing Texas Hold em.

I currently use full tilt poker, but any client would be fine as long as we could actually get a game going.

Do those clients allow you to create private rooms and set up your own rules? Yahoo is an easy client to use, but the problem is there is a betting limit (no all in) and you can't even out the money so make it fair. Other clients will have those other rules but you can't make private tables. If we could find one with both then it would be a lot easier to set this up. I would love to participate if we can get something off the ground.

I'll take a look through some clients and see what I can find. Even if we can't make a private room, its still easy to find an empty public room and have us all flood it.

PokerStars is out for me... last year some asshole stole $600 from my account and they expect me to pay it back... fuck them.

If we use any other program I'd be up for it. Real money or play money?

I played texas hold em for the first time last year in the fall when I visited my younger brother and my cousin and his wife. I did ok at first, but then by the end I ended up beating them all. I was surprised at first, but then I though that they probably had too much to drink to think clearly whilst I had no alcohol whatsoever until after winning. :kitty:

I enjoy poker. I would participate in a tournament.

I wouldn't care between real or fake, but we would probably get more people playing if we use fake money.

Thoughts?

I'm poor (even though I just got a summer job that pays a whopping $20/day), so I suggest play money. Pineconn Dollars, perhaps? ;)

This reminds me, we need to do an AGN Fantasy Football league, too.

I'd play. Even though I am a bit rusty...so Pineconn dollars sounds fine. (Only certified Pineconn dollars though, not the fake lolz crap. :P )

Fulltilt poker is what I have. It works pretty well, I think.

Hey, the lolz tripence is the only offically recognized currency in this competition, so if you don't like that then you can just leave :P

But, heres what i'm thinking right now:

1.) We use fake money
2.) We use full tilt poker (I mean, we could do anything, but I know that this is a quality program from experience, and i'm pretty sure you can make private rooms)
3.) If we get enough people, we could divide this thing into a sort of brackets like system, if not we'll just play a game with whoever we can get. Perhaps we can arrange for a little something for the winner? (regardless of the system used)
4.) we'll need to pick a time and date.

I'm in. Don't care how or when, as long as it's sufficiently late in the evening.

*looks at my previous post in this thread*

I fold.

But then again, I'm only one person, and this is only one game. If this date works for the majority of people, then I would have no problem missing out.

Well, I think you're out P, seeing as the earliest I can do it is the 29, and you're busy everyday after that.

Pineconn_lolz told me via AIM that the game is off. His reason is that he ate a big breakfast of bancakes, and he is so stuffed that he'll have to miss it.

However, we could still have it without him.

Meh, poker was around before lolz, it will be around long after him. If lolz is too bitter to run the game, someone else will step in to run it. I'll download the Full Tilt client and take a look at it.

There's a big Magic tournament in Roanoke this Sunday. If I'm able to go to that I won't be able to play poker. If I can't make it Sunday night should be fine for me. I'll probably know what I'm doing by Saturday.

Sunday night is on for me! I just need to make sure to do my laundry Sunday morning / afternoon.

I just signed up at Full Tilt (the free side). I'm AlphaDawg79 there. I'll take a look around and see what our options are.

I was hoping we could play a bit tonight... problem is I don't think Full Tilt allows private tables. If anybody else has a better way to pull this off let us know, please.

I'd be down for either tonight or the 5th. Any sunday works fine for me also.

What's the table size, eight seats? I guess we'd just have to get that many people together then swarm an open room or something, ...unless you can reserve seats.

I guess I'll download it now and take a look.

So I'm counting seven of us so far, that seem right?

Alright I've got an account set up there (the free kind), username Tiamat_AD. I'm just sorta fiddling around over there right now.

I'm free weekends in the evenings, or weekdays after monday after 9:00 pm PST, ..this week that is.

EDIT:WTF?! Very first hand, I had A 10, with top pair in the big blind, pushed all in on some jackass in the small blind on the turn who had a pair of 2.s,,,and the river comes 2!! .....what in the hell. And that's how you catch a two-outer,; is by never folding. ever.

I just donked off a massive chip lead (over 5:1) heads-up and had to settle for 2nd in a 90-person no-limit sit-n'-go. Oh well. My play money stash is up to over $5500 after 1 full day of play. Not bad.

The last hand went a little something like this: JJ for him, 33 for me. Flop comes 3xx, all spades. I make my set but he has a fourflush. Turn is a blank. River is of course another spade. Good night for me.

The first couple hands of those tournaments are always fun, I like watching the idiots (sometimes 5 or 6 at a time) donk off their chips to foolish all-in bets pre-flop. No matter how good my hand is, I fold immediately! Even if I was holding AA I would fold. The chance of the bullets holding up drops considerably with all those donkeys in the pot. I was way below the average stack most of that tournament. My result validates my strategy. I just need to work a bit on my heads-up play...

I played for about an hour last night, and did OK (bought in for $600, cashed out with $1800), but the game was plagued by the usual free game problem - many of the players apparently had never heard of any other option besides "fold" and "all in." Knowing 2-3 people will call all in pre-flop every single hand does make the game much simpler, but also very boring.

I ended up playing for about five hours yesterday, playing in three 90 person sit-n-go and three single table sit-n-go tourneys. Sported two first place and one second place finish, then finally blew it all on one hand before quitting. I saw a 7-person all-in very first hand on one of those. Holy shit. XD ...AlphaDawg has it right, you pretty much have to just check the fold button first ten or so hands regardless of what two cards you're holding. I had to fold back to back jacks...

Anyway, yeah, It'd be much more interesting to get an AGN game going than play with randomly assorted insane people who somehow have an automatic call button always checked on their screen...

Let's get something going.

Let's get something going.I really wish more people would take the opportunity to sharpen their poker skills with no real money on the line, instead of looking for cheap thrills. Oh well, such is life. How about we check some other clients and see if they allow private tables? I'll begin taking a look tonight.

I'm happy to report the 2000-chip 90 person sit-and-go's don't have as many donkeys in them as the 250's. Obviously that is because you only start with 1000 play chips and actually have to play decently enough elsewhere to get enough chips to buy in.

I played in one of these and got knocked out in 55th. On the last hand I went all-in on the flop and had the lead with bottom two pair, only to get outdrawn on the turn by somebody who called with top pair. It was a 6-5 off-suit "big blind special" where it's free to see the flop provided nobody raises, as was the case here.

Here's the log of that hand in case you're interested, I think I played it about as well as you could. I like reading logs of interesting hands. I wish I had the log of one of the hands from the tourney I got 2nd in. I was chip leader at the time, and trapped the guy who was 2nd in chips perfectly and busted him. :D

I did this twice the last couple I played. Man did I feel pretty stupid after the second time losing with a huge chip lead. There seems to be a much greater amount of good pot limit omaha players than NL holm-em players though, so I guess I don't feel to bad. I'm also kinda realizing that my heads-up game doesn't seem to be that good at all.

Speaking of which; How do you get the logs off the current table?

..Because man would I have one for the archives! I sit down at this nine-person sit-n-go, everybody starts chatting like they know each other, "gl verybdy!" "gl u2 !!" etc.. , first hand comes and the person to my right moves all in, I fold, then the entire table calls!! A few seconds later I'm playing heads up with the short stack. Funny shit.
