Yes, let's!

http://l.j-factor.com/zeldaclassic/NeoFirst_L.qst - Updated 16/6/08.

These minibosses are not in order of difficulty. Skip them by walking to the right.

Boss: Vitreous Cygel
Stolen from: A Link to the Past, Zelda Challenge: Outlands
Notes: It was devised when I tried to think of what it would take to make Gohma hard. Fighting it may cause permanent baldness.

Boss: Mothula Junior
Stolen from: Oracle of Seasons
Notes: Remarkably close to the original. Those li'l moths are just cute.

Boss: Flaming Elder
Stolen from: Zelda Challenge: Outlands
Notes: Don't fight him as if he were Patra.

Boss: ?????
Stolen from: Oracle of Ages
Notes: Unlike the original, it has no particularly weak spot. If you have an idea for the name of this jumping creature, please let me know! (Must be one word.)

The concepts are sound. But I remain sort of ... underwhelmed.

Okay, I must be dumb, but how do I get to the minibosses?

For what it's worth, I was trying to keep them simple and make them fit in with the original Z1 bosses. They're only minibosses, after all.

Um, _L_, mind answering my question?

-Uses new features of the next build. Until it is released, fight only the first boss.

What build would that be? I'm not getting half the bosses to appear either.

813 is the newest one, so is this fully check-out-able on that build...or the one after?

_L_

Yes, please use the 813 build.

I think theyre pretty cool. they may not be super fancy but they make excellent minibosses, and would even fit well as "late in the game" bosses in a Z1 style quest. Good job, _L_!

Russ, did you perchance open it in ZQuest and save or something? Because it should dump you right onto the first miniboss screen, I believe. Where are you opening up at?

I think they fit in with the overall feel of the quest very nice, and are certainly much more interesting than the Z1 enemies. (That patrarobe thing is a bitch to kill). People will certainly be bugging you for the scripts pretty soon. Especially since the tiles are colored for DoR.

I'm a sucker for the really big boss battles though. You know, that feeling you get when the game just takes over, and out of nowhere the screen begins closing in on you, and the first time you fight it you think "Holy Shit" and you try to just "not die". ..That's the stuff.

(That patrarobe thing is a bitch to kill).

Well, I kinda included in the inventory a weapon especially suited to taking it down.

I just used the remote control bombs. :p

Want me to make new graphics for those or something?

I'm starting at the intro to the game. Maybe I just opened the wrong version of the file. I'll try again.

If these are the minibosses, I'd be pretty worried fighting the bosses...

Russ

Wow _L_, I'm impressed. How on earth do you beat the flaming elder without cheats?

Joe123

I didn't find it too bad personally.

Remote bombs were useful.

The gohma was the one I couldn't beat.

Flaming elder was pretty easy with Roc's feather.

Want me to make new graphics for those or something?Actually, now that you mention it I would be most grateful for touched-up graphics of the first and last minibosses.

Update!

Use the same download link. No meaningful changes in the bosses, but I wanted to show the not-so-impressive Boss Heart Meter script, which is controlled by a certain equipment item that you've seen somewhere before, and is located south of the first screen.

Speaking of which, how do you get that, ahem, "special item," without the slyphs carrying you away?

Call it Vertoise (Veran/Tortoise). O;

A puff of smoke, followed by expert timing!

Call it Vertoise (Veran/Tortoise). O;All 3 of her forms are creepy-crawlies. Looks more like a pillbug to me.

I believe it is a beetle. So perhaps Veetle? This is as colorful as my mind for names goes.

Russ

I like Vertoise. I think it's a turtle of sorts.

Couldn't the last boss be made to use the Pink Darknut graphics from LOZ:LttP?

Russ
06-16-2008, 11:34 PM
It could, but it uses the exact pattern as the current tiles do in OoA.

You mean "Red Armos Knight". And I suppose that's a good idea for an easier variation.

I don't remember him being surrounded by fire in ALTTP when he stomped.

Perhaps there could be one or more fire shooters on the screen that would occasionally blast the Red Knight with a stream of fire, enabling his firestomp ability? Slashing those shooters would temporarily disable them for a fair to good amount of time so fighting it wouldn't be as dangerous.

Well, ah, that part is already controlled by the FFC's D2. Let's not overthink this!

You've lost me.

Joe123
06-17-2008, 06:01 PM
You can change whether the boss creates flames when it stomps by changing the D2 argument of the ffc.
Allegedly.
Not that I've tried it.

Forget swapping the graphics of the Veran boss -- someone should script a clone of the actual Armos boss from LttP.
