I don't know how to make things appear using the whistle. When I try, it makes all the screens change color until I go inside. I set the sreen options to whistle->stairs and I put down the flag No. 3 and I set the under combo. And I still can't get it to work.

If you're trying to create something resembling the original first quest Level 7 entrance, try clicking here (http://www.kingsquee.com/zc/zqtutorial/chapter4/page3.html#Step 8).

Flag #3 only designates where Link can whistle to trigger secret flags #16-31. Those flags control what appears. Click here (http://www.kingsquee.com/zc/zqtutorial/newadditions/secretcombos) for help setting up secrets that way. Don't check the "whistle -> stairs" screen flag if you go this way.

The under combo does not apply in either case. The under combo is what appears under a block Link pushes.

Here's a better explanation:

* Take a look at the Item Location selector. Then look to the right.
* Click the Stairs, and place the yellow square on the screen where you want it to be.
* Change the "Stairs" Secret Combo to what you want it to be.

Done!

Thanks. Is there also a way to play the whistle to make it rain?

One way to make it rain is to use layers (by the way, I use 2.10). However, it can be kind of complicated, because to get rain to work, you have to pretty much understand how to use the tile editor, combo editor, and animated combos, unless you are using a tileset that has animated rain already in it. Let's assume you already have a rain combo available. First place whistle tags on the screen where you want them. Then go to Data -> Layers and underneath the number 5 input a map and screen coordinate that you are not planning for the actual player to see. Hit OK, then go to the screen you chose and put transparent combos on the entire screen. Then put flag #16 on the parts of the screen where you want rain to appear on your original screen. Next, go to Data -> Secret Combos. Select the Misc. tab and set the top left combo underneath the text "Flags 16 - 31" to your animated rain combo. Now when the whistle is played on the original screen, rain will suddenly appear falling on it. I made a small quest showing what I am talking about using the classic tileset at http://ultrashare.net/hosting/fl/dca8738b55/rainexample (yes, the rain tiles in it are crappy, I just took one of conveyor down combos' tiles and edited them). Try it out and use the whistle in the grass to have it start raining on the parts of the screen I selected. The only problem with this method is if you want it to always rain even after you leave the screen, you have to add more stuff.
