Simple poll. If the election were held today, and you could vote, who would you vote for? Who do you think should lead this nation for the next four years?

Where's the poll?

I was making it. Sheesh. :waggle:
I put it in alphabetical order by last name, in case anyone wonders.
Wish I was able see the poll and vote.

I voted Obama, cause I'm bitter and cling to my guns and religion.
Actually, I'm a crazy hippie.

I love crazy hippies...and I love Obama
McCain. I don't particularly like him, but he's better than all the other choices we have.

If Bob Barr is on the ballot, I'm voting for him. If not, I'm writing in Ron Paul.

Obama - of the three viable candidates, he's lied the least.
McCain. I don't particularly like him, but he's better than all the other choices we have.
Thankfully, you don't have the right to vote.
Bob Barr definitely doesn't fit the Libertarian ticket. I don't see why Paul didn't just take their nomination.
But uh, all the candidates are shit. McCain is dangerous and Obama's nearly a socialist. Clinton too, but her chances of being nominated are as much as her chances of getting lucky with anyone. I just wouldn't vote, or I'd write in Ron Paul as a protest.

Nah, you're treated like you are dumb because you made the egregious mistake of voicing support for someone with an "R" beside his name. That makes you open season for the otherwise tolerant progressive folks. :)
I hate being treated like I'm dumb just because I'm young. :(
Sorry, what I said was rude. I actually think you're remarkably smart for your age. I guess I should have explained. I don't like it when people vote for someone they don't like. I realize the alternative is a) voting third party or b) not voting, and then you might get a candidate in office who you like even less than the mainstream one you would have chosen... but it still bothers me. You won't find me voting for someone I dislike... I'd rather stay home or vote 3rd party.

Nope. You do like making baseless assumptions though, don't you? Notice I didn't say anything to AlphaDawg or anything specifically about McCain. My explanation for what I said (which I apologize for being too lazy to post originally) can be found above.
If you don't like someone, vote for someone else. That's my feeling.

I agree it would make more sense for Ron Paul to take the Libertarian nomination, but I think he wants to maintain his loyalty to the Republican party - and more specifically, to the faction of the party that corresponds to his views.

I sure like the fact that people have voted none of the above. None of the above has shown me that they are qualified for the office of the presidency. Some say that it is a good thing, but if you believe that, then why don't you look at Jimmy Carter's presidency. As for the rest, they don't seem to be good enough at getting the support of the American people. None of them; except Obama, but he's just not qualified yet.

I am not into politics or anything but if I had to vote for anyone it would be Hilary since she at least knows how its like to be President since her husband was one. But what do I know :P

You know, it's kinda weird that we don't have a governor running this year. I mean, being governor is kinda like presidential training wheels. Granted, it didn't help Dubbya out, but he was a pretty crappy governor (nothing specifically, it was just that he was indecisive about EVERYTHING).

I support Obama for lack of a better candidate.

Either way works for me - I figure, if I'm gonna have a liar for a president, I at least want him to be good at it. I don't want a president who does things half-assed.

I vote for John McCain to go to the nursing home and stay the fuck away from the white house. And I vote for Obama to go to the white house. And anyone that says he's not "qualified"... well since atleast some of you assholes elected the current douchebag you've made it obvious the job of president says No Experience Necessary.
And I don't understand how people think McCain is special at all. He's one of those old Senate farts. One of a congress with a very low approval rating. And his "military" background doesn't add to his resume. If anything it takes away from it. McCain is one of few that I think has the potential to actually be worse than Bush. I know it seems crazy to say that with how fucked up Bush got things, but you give McCain a chance and he'll finish the job.

The thing you've got to understand about McCain is that deep down, he's really just a tax-and-spend liberal... Well, without the taxing part, so more of a "Hey, this credit card is like free money," liberal.

Jimmy Carter ran under that campaign, and if you think that presidency was good (exclude his economic failures) then you go ahead and vote for Obama. I really hope that the United States never makes that mistake again, but then again, not many Americans have a sense of history.
It's funny how people think that life has gotten so terrible under Bush. My life is still very comfortable and I'm not worrying about much of anything. Life is still good to me.

You have to remember we're still on our way down, we haven't even hit the bottom yet.
I think it's somewhat narrow to say "well, my life is fine, so I don't have a problem with this president". I mean, look at the quality of life for the average Iraqi citizen right now... you'll find it's far from great.
I do, however, think that people blaming the president for the state of the economy is misguided. He really can't do that much by himself.

I'm voting for McCain (who I actually would have voted for in 2000 over Bush if I had been given the choice).
But I wouldn't particularly be upset if Obama won. Now Hillary, there is no way in hell I want to see her as President... ever.

Obama or McCain I could live with, but the thought of Hillary as president makes my skin crawl.

McCain is the first republican that I'd ever consider voting for, not because I don't like republicans, but because all of their candidates while I've been alive I've disliked...
But I'd go with Obama. Of all the politicians, he seems the least...politiciany.
Now I know thats probably kinda an act, but the fact that he makes the effort...

Hey, the president is responsible to me. If I'm living fine, then I really don't care.
The life of the average Iraqi has gone from hell to hell. Not much change. Besides, outside of that Triangle of Death or whatever they call it it's really not all too bad.

My concerns are for Israel. There is simply no way in this hell or the next that anyone can debate them down to peace. The beings on the other end of the sandy foreign end of the debate table won't rest until every last piece of Israel is in the hands of its enemies, and every last legal resident of that former country unfortunately and mysterious displaced. McCain doesn't take that debate stance.

Voted McCain. After watching countless speeches and debates on C-SPAN, on local channels, and in Government class, he just makes the most sense. As long as Clinton or Obama stay out of the White House, at least, I'll be happy; I probably would have been fine with Edwards. I really can't wait until the Democratic National Convention, though. It's going to be funny. :)
But yeah, I can't actually vote either. A true mock election would be fun later on in the year.
Shit, I voted too early.

Man, fuck Israel. We're having tough enough time in two major conflicts right now as it is. We need to get out of the shit we're in and give the country a little TLC. That is, unless you have friends or family there, then I'm sorry for you.

Here's what bothers me about the Israel/Palestine situation. The average Israeli and the average Palestinian both want peace. However, the extremists on both sides keep convincing them that peace can only be obtained if the other side is completely obliterated. To make their point, they attack, and when that attack results in retaliation, they turn around and say "See, see! I told you! They'll just keep attacking us until every one of us is dead!"

This is not quite true. Equivocation does not hold water in the Israel/Palestinian situation if you look at the facts. The terrorists in the Gaza Strip and West Bank are the mainstream. Hamas was democratically elected as the government of the Gaza Strip. They have vowed Israel's destruction. They target civilians. They daily fire rockets into populated places.
Israel, on the other hand, has never vowed total destruction of the Palestinians. They seem content to give them the Gaza Strip and West Bank, provided they can build a wall to keep the terrorists out. When they retaliate, they attack only terrorist or military installations. If Palestinian civilians are killed, the Knesset investigates and takes appropriate action against those who did it.
Now that Iran-backed Hezbollah has taken control of the Lebanese government, it creates an even more precarious situation for Israel. They are now beset by enemies on all sides, enemies whose founding charters demand the removal of the Jews from the land.
Whether or not our foreign policy should be directed toward assisting Israel is another matter. But these are the facts.

Like I said - the population is not represented by the extremists. The extremists have entirely different motives. The mainstream Palestinians have been convinced by extremist propaganda that they cannot live in peace unless Israel is destroyed. To them, they are fighting for their own security. The simple fact is, groups like Hamas just want power, and stirring up fear is a great way to gain power. Do you really, honestly believe that the Palestinian man-on-the-street gives a crap about that? No, they just want their families to be safe, and they have been convinced by groups like Hamas that killing Israelis is the only way to accomplish it.

McCain..only because Obama is the most liberal member of the Senate..McCain has been good on controlling wasteful spending and not much else in my opinion. Obama would be one of the least qualified Presidents in the history of the country..but hey if you talk like a populist and promise to tax the rich and to give out entitlements like candy then you will be supported by a large percentage of the population. :)

I'm no big McCain fan. But given a choice between him and Obama? No contest.
