View Full Version : Unable to get Cave/Item room to work

I am using the Alphadawg tutorial for zquest and I'm using the latest version of zquest (2.10), but I can't get the cave room to work properly. When I go to the screen with the cave on it, abei is there with the item and I get stuck.

Did you set the tick in the DMap rules that the items and guys are ONLY in caves? I remember there is a line stating that rule. Once it is ticked, the cave should work properly.

More importantly, are you on an overworld DMap?

It looks like the overworld because of the overworld map on the left top corner.

My tutorial was written for ZC 1.84, the first public release waaaaay back in 2000. If you're using a version later than, say, 1.90, following the tutorial step-by-step won't quite work. As far as I know, you need only to do what Matthew said to get your overworld started.

Ok, I've poked around the menus for several hours and I still can't find it. What menu would I find this option under?

Oops, my bad, the "special rooms and guys are in caves only" DMap flag is only in the later 2.5 betas.

Try clicking Quest -> DMaps, then double-click on DMap 0. Under "Type," select "Overworld." That should work.

In previous versions of ZQuest the DMap type defaulted to Overworld, hence why you're not instructed to do this in my tutorial.

Don't know if you already figured this out, but you didn't mess with scr. 80 itself, did you? That could be it.

First, make sure it's an overworld dmap. Second, if you're using 2.5, go to the flags tab and chech the rule "guys are in caves only".
