Simple, and the simplest of problems are the most difficult to solve.

I cannot get here without a Proxy Server serving me as a go between. 'The connection has timed out' appears on my browser, Mozilla FireFox, and also happens on Internet Explorer.

It worked a week ago.. what could possibly be wrong?

Try using Opera (http://www.opera.com/)?

I would blame Micro$oft if Internet Explorer does that problem too.

Yes, that's what I'm wondering myself. I'm not sure if I am relieved that someone is actively pursuing the cause to this problem, or somewhat discontent that none has been found yet. Anyway I thank you for trying to fix this issue, I really hope you manage to do so. Using proxy servers is rather annoying actually.

And dammit, Good luck. Seriously.

I would blame Micro$oft if Internet Explorer does that problem too.

It's not the browser.

*Somewhat confused* Who is trying to figure it out? I am, but I can't do a whole lot on my end.

The Browser isn't the problem, it used to work, and the only reason I can think of thats stopping me is the Forum/Site itself, only that doesn't make sense. Unless IP Banning prevents the banned from even connecting to the site, I don't think its that. Its more likely to have a page that says you can't get in, you are banned, something to that effect.

I'm in Japan, if that helps.

My apologies. You see, this post was made a few hours after I called my IP tech support and asked them if there was a problem on their end, such as some kind of routing problem, etc, because I too have been unable to access this site from my computer for about three days and have had to resort to using a proxy server also. It must've been merely a coincedence.

If you say you are from Japan I think it's also safe to assume that many others are having this same...strange problem. I really don't know how to go about fixing it though.

Alright, I PM'd DD about it, but I think he's been pretty busy lately. Hopefully we'll add another peice to this puzzle.

Yeah, okay, the exact same thing is happening to me now.
I actually AGN had gone down for the last 24 hours. It wasn't until I got a mail telling me about a PM...

if you haven't already, clear out all temporary internet files, including all cookies, for all browsers you use, then reboot your computer. if it doesn't fix your problem, then i'm not sure what the problem would be...

Gleeok
05-11-2008, 01:14 AM
I'm pretty sure it has successfully been narrowed down to hostrocket as the most likely probable cause.

The_Amaster
05-11-2008, 01:29 PM
Wow, against all odds the proxy server I was using itself started \"timing out\" and so I had to find another one. And yeah, I\'ve cleared all my cookies and stuff.

If you can't access the domain, post your IP (the one you can't access with, not the proxy you're using, of course). There are some entries in the .htaccess which might be blocking you.

Is there someone I can send my IP to? I'm not just about to put my IP up for everyone to see. Please respond quickly, I'm nearly out of proxies. However, I FINALLY got registered on Pure ZC (took a month... god damn, those forums are dumb!) at least so I can release my quest. Go ahead and email me at [email protected] if you have someone to send my IP to, since I might not be able to get on here to see it.

DarkDragon

I've sent the email, though note your IP is hardly secret and is known by every website you visit on the internet.

Nicholas Steel

especially forums :) moderators and admin (sometimes only admin) can see what IP you posted with very easily since it is included in each of your posts in the top right corner.

Whatever they did, I can access without a proxy now. Yay

If you're still having problems submitting your quest here, feel free to PM me, if you like, with a template of how you want it to look on the main page, and I can sumbit it on your behalf. Strange that everything is working fine for us now but not you. That sucks man.

Um, how do I check my IP again? *sheepish*

DarkDragon
05-12-2008, 08:25 PM
http://www.checkip.org/

Also, double-check that you still can't access the forums with your original IP; I've been getting "timed out" messages too (caused by our host sucking) but these clear up after ~10 mins.

The_Amaster
05-12-2008, 08:32 PM
69.131.29.120 And I'm still getting those messages. Although interestingly enough I can't view the comments pages on quests in the QDB any more because I get a page from the host place saying "We could not find that file."

DarkDragon
05-12-2008, 09:32 PM
Link to the broken comment page?

Also, what's the exact error message you get when you try to visit AGN/ZC?

The_Amaster
05-12-2008, 10:46 PM
http://zeldaclassic.armageddongames.net/javascript:popUpcomments('viewquestcomment.php?que st=357') , and it says "The connection has timed out The server at www.armageddongames.net is taking too long to respond."

DarkDragon, I cannot access AGN without a proxy now. My IP is 67.159.47.202. I get the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error message when I try to access AGN without a proxy.

You're sure it wasn't a temporary site outage?

AtmaWeapon

BigJoe was talking to me today and claims he can't get to the site.

You might want to start checking with your upstream providers; it sounds like someone's got some problems when it comes to directing traffic.

Okay, I should mention that my IP is actually 74.5.34.79. The one I gave earlier was through a proxy. Without a proxy, my IP is 74.5.34.79.

bigjoe

Still unable to access without a proxy, and in some cases when I can, I cannot send private messages. Regardless, browsing through a proxy is very slow and unenjoyable. :(

AlexMax

Does 216.120.251.185 work instead of www.armageddongames.net? If so, your ISP is probably having DNS problems. They'll hopefully eventually fix themselves, but in the meantime you might want to try OpenDNS (http://www.opendns.com/).

Also, if you're having proxy troubles, you might want to try out something like Your Freedom (http://www.your-freedom.net/). It's a pay proxy company which offers a very reasonable free trial.

bigjoe
05-28-2008, 03:22 PM
216.120.251.185 does the same thing. Ah well. I'll check out "Your Freedom".

Well, AGN is on shared hosting, so the IP alone is not enough to connect. But that it's giving you an error instead of the Apache test page I get is proof the problem is with the host.

Pineconn
05-30-2008, 08:34 PM
So... basically the problem is out of your reach? Would it be possible to send them (whoever "they" are) a message that some computers are getting blocked?

DarkDragon
05-31-2008, 02:35 PM
Yeah, I've let War Lord know about the problem, he'll have to have a word with out host.

06-01-2008, 10:44 PM

Not bloody likely, since once again I have to use a proxy to get here.

Pineconn

That was a quick fix. Oh well, back to the proxy for me..... Somebody is epic fail at networking.

That kind of makes me mad, since I just submitted ZC 2.5 b809's development history to the website... It took about 10 minutes to edit. Couldn't it have broken when I was finished with the update?

EDIT: Oh, that looks lovely. Could somebody with QDB management abilities fix the latest ZC development update? The proxy doesn't want to copy over carriage returns.

If I lose access or dont post for 2 or more days, try contacting me on PureZC or via MSN untill Warlord solves the issues with the server :P

For me the error is "The connection was interrupted before it could negotiate a connection to the server)

Yay, It works again! >_< It's like that relative you have that tells the same joke every year. And each time is more annoying than the last.

We could get like an office pool going. I'll wager 20 Pineconn dollars that franpa gets unbanned on Wednesday.

Back to the proxy.

My computer might be messed up, though, since Sonic Classic's ZC source code was riddled with viruses. -_-

Can't say I'm not surprised. You should have run it through a virus scanner before you downloaded it.

Can't say I'm not surprised. You should have run it through a virus scanner before you downloaded it.

Well... heh....

My computer actually silently blocked me from unzipping the source code, and I eventually learned to disable my firewall. However... when I re-enabled it, it went bonkers over various new Trojans in my SYSTEM32 folder. I eventually ran a scan and found seven "potentially unwanted programs."

I wonder if theres any possibility that some the people think the site is down.

bigjoe
06-14-2008, 09:46 AM
I suspect that there are numerous others that can no longer access AG but have not the means to convey the knowledge, or in some cases, don't even know its an error, and think the site is down. Hell, I'm not exactly rich, but I'd help a few people out with a subscription if it got us some better hosting.

Yup, happened to me too. I PMed DD about it like some others told me too. Proxies are sure annoying to use, hope something can be done about this.

I dont think DarkDragon can really do anything about it. It's up to War Lord. We're doomed. =(

Interesting thing to note is that it happens mainly to people who are interested in Zelda Classic who arent developers. Has anyone uninterested in ZC had to go through a proxy yet?

I suspect that there are numerous others that can no longer access AG but have not the means to convey the knowledge, or in some cases, don't even know its an error, and think the site is down.If I didn't have my own forum and had talked about it I would have thought it was down , and without Gleeok being so kind to come to my forum and posting a link to a proxy server I never even would be here , cause I simple didn't even know you could get here that way . So yes I think there could be a lot of people that simple think it's down :(
