I just stumbled on this today:
http://www.bripro.com/low/obscure/index.php?page=hko_smw

Apparently it was a pirated version of the Super Famicom game made in Hong Kong for the original Famicom. Obviously it's very buggy and unfinished, but I'm actually very impressed with how well they managed to translate the game onto the obviously inferior medium (and I'm sure at a very cheap budget, given it was a pirated game). It looks very good for an 8-bit game:

There is also a Youtube video of someone fighting Bowser (who apparently was not finished and could only be accessed via a debug-type system) here:

The battle is actually remarkably faithful. Though I guess in the video he is using a cheat to not die (he gets hit several times and never loses the cape).

I kind of wonder if this rom is floating around somewhere - it would be a lot of fun to play I bet.

Also of interest from the same site:

SMB3 for Gameboy Color! :D haha

The rom is very easy to find Warlock. It looks impressive for what it is, but it plays pretty shitty. There are atleast 3 versions of the game around. One in a multi-cart, one stand alone, and one with the Debug world you start in that lets you goto any world, such as those beyond what they completed. They only completed like the first 2 worlds or something like that and after that it just says buh-bye.

Well yeah, I haven't actually looked for it. I figured it was buggy, but it's mainly the graphics that impress me - they did a great job translating them to 8-bit.

Google for: "Super Mario World (Full Version) [p1]" and you'll find it in no time. Remember to use quotes.

Haha, wow you were right about it playing like crap. The thing I found had a ton of other Hong Kong roms with it too - I love the mod of Adventure Island 2 with Mario as the main character. He gets on the skateboard and turns into Raccoon Mario.. haha.. there is also a very bad Harry Potter game where you fight bats and apparently fat sumo guys :D I will say the sprites for Harry are pretty good though (too bad he controls like crap :P)

There's also a dump (which may be a bad dump) of "Spiderman 3" which is a very shitty hack of a graet game, Ninja Gaiden 3. There's a whole lot of crappy and semi-decent Hong Kong original games.

I have to say, this is pretty interesting. I never thought it would be able to fit into an 8 bit system.

Yeah, I think I have that one. It's Spiderman 2. Clearly Ninja Gaiden, though it's very buggy (the graphics are a little glitchy).

I was also looking, I have Donkey Kong Country for the NES. I started playing it - holy crap, it's actually good! The graphics are very decent (probably close to the GB Donkey Kong Land titles being played on a Super Game Boy) and even the play control is very good. The first level is very basic, but you can get the DK barrel and switch to Diddy when you die. The second level is a swimming level and the third one was one of those platform levels. I didn't play beyond that.

Also, someone should tell the pirates to look up the definition of "Tetris".. here's a hint, your pieces need to be made of FOUR blocks. Not 3, not 2, not 1 :P

Yes, Super Donkey Kong 2 for Famicom is pretty neat. The problem is it is only one world. That means the levels you see at the beginning are all that exist. So like four or five levels.
