I can't figure out why but the sound & music will not play!
Can someone help me?

What version are you using, and do other sounds/music work in other apps.

Stupid

I'm using 2.10 on Windows Vista, and yes the sound/music is working on different programs.

bobrocks95

2.10 is not designed to work with Vista, so that is most likely the problem. I'm guessing you're using the "Run as administrator" trick, or something similar?

If you use 2.10 with Vista, you will encounter an array of problems. Just download the newest alpha build from shardstorm.com to make your life a whole lot simpler.

Why do you ask?

Just a method I know of to run 2.10 on Vista

I tried russadwan's advice, but the sound still does not play!
Much better version though.
Thank you!

make sure you have all the appropriate options checked in the ZC Launcher.

Which opitions?

Well, in ZQ, make sure "No Sound" is unchecked, and it's probably best to scan and make sure you have everything needed.

This happens to me occasionally, but I just exit then reboot the application. Not the computer, and make sure you close out, not just hit Reset.

Now that I think about it, this has happened to me before in 2.10, but has since never happened again.

Still no luck.
Do you know where the SW Synth or Wave options are on Vista?

No clue, I'm an all XP person.

I don't think Vista has them. But if you find them, let me know.

I was curious so I tried playing a MIDI file, & it didn't play!
I'm new at this, but doesn't Zelda Classic use MIDI files?
Can you guys think of any reason why my computer doesn't play MIDI files at all?

Well Stupid; :p First thing to try is double-clicking your volume icon in the task tray, you should be able to set your volume levels here. If for some reason you don't have a volume icon, go to start->control panel->Volume options and set them there. If that doesn't work for some reason you can also try to "play lost woods" midi in ZQ...I don't know why but sometimes that works for people.

I had a problem much like this, and indeed the volume trick fixed everything. I was hanging out with Alpha when he figured it out. It was weird because I don't remember ever turning my midi volume down, he said perhaps some program did it... point is everything works fine now, so chances are that is indeed your problem as well. Now all I need to do is find a good pc controller to use with ZC (any suggestions?).

I've used a lot of PC gamepads, from Sidewinders to various Gravis products to SNES controllers via a SmartJoy. This one is the best yet.

I used to have an old one of those(older model, but looked nearly identical) that I bought off eBay from an army veteran. Of course, the right joystick was screwed up, it wasn't wireless, had less buttons(including no programmable ones), and had no rumble feature, but I imagine it would have been really nice if it was more like the new version.
Personally, I use an XBox controller with a special converter to connect to a USB port.

MIDIs don't play? Vista comes with Microsoft MIDI Mapper, but perhaps something went wrong. Try looking for a MIDI mapper, install and try again. Be sure to assign the mapper with Control Panel.

Stupid

If I did have Microsoft MIDI Mapper, where would I find it?
How would I know if I have it or not?

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio Tab -> Midi Music Playback.

Windows XP Home Service Pack 3 RTM.

Would that be the steps for XP?
Because I have Vista.:(

I'm guessing it would be similar for Vista. However, my Vista computer is in for repairs right now, so I can't confirm it.

I think your name suits you.

You do realize that not all people who are using computers are experts. Some of us are still learning. When you were just starting out, if every person you asked a question of replied to you in this manner, would you now be feeling so superior. Does it make you feel cool to be so nasty to people who are seeking to learn? Thanks so much for your help!

I specifically stated watch version of windows that related to and yet you asked if i was talking about windows XP >.>

Stupid

So that is your justification for such a nasty remark? Have you never made a mistake, you know, like using the word watch instead of which in your most recent post? Those of us less fortunate than you in the skills department would truly appreciate it if you could exercise a little tolerance. Thanks again.

Dude. You named YOURSELF stupid. I can't possibly believe you seriously mean what you're saying. Also, this is my computer expert opinion on the matter:

Stop using Vista.

It will save you a lot of trouble with Zelda Classic and with basically any other program.

Despite what some people (& I) have been saying, I'm not so Stupid after all!
I solved the problem!:D
It turned out that all I needed was a driver for playing MIDI files!

But I have to give credit where credit is due.

#1 bobrocks95 for being the first one too answer my plea & for trying too help me out till the end.

#2 russadwan for helping me get a much better version of Zelda Classic.

#3 franpa for teaching me just how stupid it is to use a name like Stupid!

#4 Everyone for making me realize just how bad Vista really is!

To be completely honest, when I named myself Stupid I thought that it would be funny.:(
I'll never make that mistake again!

Thank you everyone, for all of your help.

I have a similar problem. no sounds at all. are ALL of the sound effects MIDIs? had ZC on the computer forever, so I don't remember doing the setup. can I run the setup again without losing save data? I assume there is a file called setup.exe... sound right? thanks.

AaronJer

The sound effects can't possibly be midis, that wouldn't make a lick of sense.

I don't know. I got it off eBay. There's plenty of good selections for converters there.

Do you know of any good converters for the Gamecube controller?

Google search for it. There are sites that sell these items and they specialize in controller adapters and such. It's out there.

Music = MIDI or some other format like MOD or SPC or NSF etc. (MIDI is the common format)
Sound FX = WAV

I think I've decided to just go with a normal gamepad.
