Charlton Heston died this past Saturday. He was a great actor, war veteran, civil rights leader, and a proponent of civil liberties. For his outspoken support of gun rights he was blacklisted by Hollywood. Heston, like Reagan, didn't leave the Democratic party as much at it left him. He marched with MLK and campaigned for JFK(who would resemble a moderate GOP candidate today). He also served as President of the Screen Actors Guild for 6 years. For many free speech means advocating speech that they believe in and hate speech means positions that they disagree with. To be a libertarian, sometimes you have to support causes that you might not agree with. This is a big problem with both major parties today.

I love Charlton Heston. I'm not as conservative as he was, but I don't have to be to appreciate his love of independence and liberty. It is a sad day, but he lived a pretty full life. RIP.
