The Legend of Zelda - A Key to the Heavens
By Joe123 and russadwan

Initial Storyline Information
After Link's adventures on Koholint island, he heads on with his travels.
All is well for a few days, until Link's ship hits a particularily stormy sea.
As the rain starts to set in, Link stows his sails and battons down the hatches, hoping to escape the wrath of the storm.
But luck is not on Link's side this day, and as he waits patiently in the cabin, the storm grows and grows, until a maelstrom rages on outside Link's ship.
Tossing and turning, Link's ship strikes a rock, and he reaches for his weapons before being cast out into the storm.
A huge spout of water catches him, and he is carried up into the sky.
The next thing he knows, he is lying in an unfamilliar wood, in a mysterious land.
After a few minutes searching the immediate area, Link finds only his shield and an empty bottle, with no sign of the Master Sword.
He continues to wonder aimlessly around this strange forest, until he is met by a fairy, Leaf, who helps Link find his sword and promises to help Link return to his own world if he can assist in this one.
They head off to the nearby village, and upon querying the villagers, he finds that the world is on the brink of destruction, and heads off to speak with the King.
Link offers his services to save this world, and after telling his tales of adventures to the king, he is granted a noble steed to help him undergo his quest.

The King tells Link that the force that is threatening this world hides away, high above the mountains in the north of the world, where none can reach him, let alone oppose him.
The King tells Link that to reach this evil abode, this Sky Palace, he will have to find three pieces of the force that keeps the north locked.
He must re-assemble the Key to the Heavens.
And with the power of this key, he will be able to open the staircase in the sky, granting him entry to the Sky Palace.

The Key was broken, and the three pieces scattered across all of Potomus.
One in the Eramus Desert to the East,
One in Lake Lemanus to the South,
One in the Niemvagora Shades to the West,
And the key-hole hidden on Mount Aurichalcium to the north.

Link must travel to the depths of this new world with Epona and Leaf to retrieve the 3 Key Pieces, and then have them re-forged at the base of Mount Aurichalcium, before traversing to it's summit and opening the staircase to the Sky Palace, to cast down the evil the world holds.

Those screens look detailed... really detailed. I hope no one gets this confused with my quest, Link to the Heavens. ;)

Four dungeons, eh? I'm hoping they'll be nice and big, or at least this quest will have lots of side events (Ã* la Majora's Mask).

Looking good! This is another quest going on my need-to-play list!

Detail is good, no?

And I did anticipate that, hopefully they wont.

There won't be that many side-quests, we're not even using heart pieces.
It's meant to be a mini-quest to show of Epona really.

EDIT: You can bet on some nice large overworld areas though :)

Oh yes, detail is very good. And those screens are detailed.

Well, good luck to you two. Group quests have a history of failing, but Petoe and Wolfie proved that wrong.

Ur, about that. The dungeons will start out very, very small (like 20 minutes or less to beat), but they will gradually get bigger. The last level should take about an hour and a half max to beat. But the bosses should be neat. A perfect combonation of scripting and good old fashioned custon boss making. And I am hoping to slip a few side events into it.
Just remember, it's a mini quest, made primarily to show off the Epona script. Although it's growing into something much more than that.

Yes, it is growing at quite a fast rate actually.
Hopefully it won't get out of hand.

What sort of sidequests did you have planned Russ?
I'm all ears.

I was thinking of using that boat script that Mega Link's making me write for a mini-game for a HC in the lake area, and there's the trading sequence, what else?

Russ

Well, I was thinking of one in particular. I'll PM it to you.

You'll have a job trying it out, at the moment there are about 5 more screens than the ones in the first post...

I'm glad people like the look of it though :)

Perhaps I should start working on the first part rather than the desert, and then make a video or something.

Eramus' Sand Sea and Gateway.
The top two rows are the Gateway (well, and Oasis) area, and the bottom 15 screens are the sand sea.

The gateway screens aren't in the correct palette, they should be in a slightly different one, but I was too lazy to take two map shots and combine the pictures.

This desert has certainly got a lot of plant life. But then, the "bare endless sand dunes" archetype only really applies to the large, famous deserts.

And, there's no reward for correctly guessing the entity in the Sky Palace, is there? (Suffice to say, it probably won't be Emperor Ing from MP2.)

Well, if you guess it, it will prove that I have been giving away too much information. :D Actually, you find out who he/she/it is at the end of level 1. But it's one of those things were you only get a part of the story each time, and you don't get the whole story until right before the final boss fight.

Yeah, nice as it would be to make it a bit more barren, it'd really ruin the screens.
They'd be far too boring to look at.

Heh, MP2 was such an awesome game.

No Ing in this one though I'm afraid.

If you can think of some kind of reward then you can have it for guessing

Maybe a pre-release play through oppurtunity.

And what does MP2 stand for?

Joe123
02-29-2008, 02:56 PM
Metroid Prime 2

And yeah, if that's something that you want them I'm sure that'd be fine
You know, we could even let you bugtest the first area for us =P

hmm omg joe and russadawn...
omg...
this has to be the most amazing thing ive seen in zc... ever...
so... much... detail...
wow. i applaud you. this is amazing.

*cough* (test quest?) *cough*

actually... i think you guys should be actual game designers. if youre this good with something that has limits like ZQ then imagine what would come of using a big game engine? like the halo engine? i see great things in your future lol

nice one too if i didnt get my point across.

Russ

First: Joe is the one doing the overworld, and thus the amazing details. Basically, this is what we are in charge of:
Joe123: Overworld, scripting.
Russadwan: Dungeons, storyline, planning.

Basically, Joe made the scripts that started this in the first place, I came up with some good ideas, then Joe used my ideas as a springboard to catipult this quest into one of the best looking works of ZC art avalible.

*cough* (test quest?) *cough*
Well, it's not that big, so if we made a demo, it would be a big chunk of the game. But we might release a demo that goes to level one, and possibly includes level one. But there might not even be a demo anyways.

I hope no one gets this confused with my quest, Link to the Heavens. ;)

Y'know, that might be a bigger issue than you think. A quest should always afford to be unique, even down to the title.

But what other title can there be? Maybe "LoZ: A Key to Heaven's Gate?"

Russ
03-05-2008, 11:39 AM
Or maybe "LoZ: The Vegence of (insert villian's name here)". :D

Pineconn

The Legend of Zelda: Heaven's Key(s)

The Legend of Zelda: A Key to the Gods

The Legend of Zelda: A Key to the Sky Palace

The Legend of Zelda: Teh Gamezor

Russ

Heaven's Key sounds pretty good. But then we would need a new quest support bar (the thing in my sig).

And just as a BTW, after you beat the quest, the credits tell you the password to it. I just though some people here might like to know.

is it vaati? [or however the hell his name is spelled]?

no reward. just curious.:D

Joe123
03-10-2008, 06:52 PM
I think we'll stick to the original name for the time being ;)

Maybe it'll be due for a re-think at some point, but as of the moment, A Key to the Heavens it is.

Oh, and hey everyone =)
First post here in a few days.

Russ
03-10-2008, 09:24 PM
Wow, I haven't seen you post in a while Joe. But I agree, the title should stay the same.
