Layer 1 is the layer that appears over layer 0 but still has the unwalkable combos.
Layer 2 goes over layer 1, same thing.
Layer 3 is somthing that goes over link if he walks under it, sort of like an overhead but is walkable.
Layer 4 Same thing as 3 but goes over the layer 3
Layer 5 goes over layer 4, 3 ,2 ,1 etc..
Layer 6 just goes over everything

Make sure you make these layers on another screen, not on the same screen that you are making your creation, or else you will see alot of black backgrounds.

Here is an example from my quest screen

Also, note that flying enemies will fly over layers 3 and 4, but they will fly under layers 5 and 6. When applying trees to an overworld, you should put the overhead part of the trees on either layer 3 or 4 so that Peahats, etc. won't appear to fly through the trees.

Allright.

Why do you have the green tree canopy on a different layer to the other tree canopies bluedeath?

Surely that's unnecessary?

Layering in a nutshell (http://zcu.sephiroth.ws/forums/index.php?showtopic=234)
Heh... my technique on treetops is that I put them to layer 0, and the ground on layer 1. Works pretty fine.

Well look closely how that second layer goes over one of the small trees. That is a layer 4 how the trees are layer 3, which is what all trees should be.

oh, personally I'd do Imprisoned's trick in that situation, saves on layer space and all that.

It's nice cause DoR is set up to use that trick per default.

That yet is another thing I didn't know, but somtimes you will need to place layers on another screen.

Edit: I just figured somthing while trying this, it doesnt really matter because in order to get this option you must have a screen set to the layer #, clicking the mark under the layer # will allow you to edit the screen while in your creation, although the tiles will still go to the other screen, so really... You would be wasting a screen either way, but yet this is faster and easier to do.

Thanks for the link Imprisoned. I hope I can apply it well in my quest.

One more thing... You should have at least 2 layermaps per map.

Yes, it's true, its what I do, an entire map would use up alot of screens, their is an option in zquest that alows you to put in more dmaps.
