It think it allows you to rip tiles directly from roms. I am not sure though, because it doesn't work on Windows Vista, which is what I have.

I kinda figured that... But it wont let me load my roms.

I pretty much need to know how to use this too. I can load the roms but they are always garble when loaded. Is there a tutorial on this, and if so can some one point us in the right direction for it?

What do you mean by that? I don't use hacks, and I don't know how to tell if it is a bad dump  But I am using .nes, .snes, .gb and .gba those are the only roms I have tried this with. And yes they all are always garble.

I believe that .zst save states are the only functional file at this time. .fc0 might also work, but I'm not sure.

However, ROMs are virtually impossible; the variety of color that would be availible is too great to choose 256 colors.

tried snes games? or are they not supported at all? snes games can be verified with NSRT @ http://nsrt.edgeemu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=764 (latest version)

older consoles i don't think have similar useful tools available... tho they do have programs that merely renames the file >.> which is pointless. (goodnes anyone?)

Try scrolling up and down. Romview views the entire ROM file, not just the graphical data. The graphics are almost always located a ways down in the file.
You can also try pressing Z and X to shift the offset. This is needed for many games.

What ROMs are you trying to view? If it has encrypted/compressed graphics, you'll need to rely on savestates or screenshots. Post a list of names.

Are you getting an error message or are you just getting a garbled display?

I know I am just getting the garble, But I am working on making a tileset right now and it would be nice to be able to get the tiles and palettes through rom view instead of ripping from snap shoots. But the type of rom I am tring to use right now is a .gba

It wasn't designed to handle GBA files. And the tiles in your particular ROM might be compressed/encrypted on top of that (the tiles in Z3 are compressed, for instance).

While we are on thesubject of Romview, I would like to bring a certain issue to light. It doesn't work with Windows Vista. Could somebody please make it work with Vista?

decompress the files to get at the ROM. otherwise your trying to open a ROM for a unsupported console/system.

Okay, I can load my roms now, but when I load them it looks like my tv when the cable is out:mad:

Scroll down. See if anything looks like what you want. What ROM are you loading, anyway?

Some roms are just impossible to rip from. But most of the tile data is at the bottom like DN said. Did you know there is already a sd3 tileset?

i believe both use compressed graphics bluedeath and had external graphic packs made for them back in the early days of emulation since emulation wasnt accurate enough to decompress the graphics at the time.

Romview is like another rom tile ripper. At the moment it's severely broken As people know it tends to crash. I need to talk to DN and tell him to fix that.

It crashed on me, I will just stay away from romview until I know more about it.

I thought the crash bugs got fixed a while ago.. hmm. That's weird, I ripped a bunch of stuff out of a rom a while ago and it worked fine. It's really a useful program to be included in the zc folder for sure.

Glad to hear ZCL is back in motion as well.

I ripped some Lttp just in time :S when I was done it crashed again.
Not sure but what is ZCL? I have been gone for awhile before so I dont know whats really going on anymore :P

For the most part, ROMView is best for ripping direct game palettes, and sprites. Everything else, honestly, you're best off ripping from screenshots and converting the palettes (Because recoloring takes too long.)

The version of ROMView that's included in the ZC downloads now crashes a lot, to be certain, which is odd because the old one (that you downloaded seperately) didn't do that.

Are you running it on the same system that you ran the old one on?

bluedeath

I fixed it now, I was just using it in a previous version that was a bit buggy, and the second was... It was in the wrong folder.

A little discovery I'd like to make note: If the SNES ROM comes with an .ipx file, most or all the graphics in the game can be easily found here. You still have to rip palettes from save states or images, though.

Yes, I figured that myself when tinkering with it. Is there any other roms that RomView work with?
