Yeah, I saw that too. Been checking it for a while now. It's just really interesting to watch. I hope Samus ultimately takes the prize, but that's just me.

It's a bit surprising though. The L block isn't really characterized very well in-game. Sure, he's got that whole "cheating on the square with the stick" thing going, as well as his mysterious past in the Nevada military labs as an experiment in fitting people into subway cars even better, but I just don't feel that it's enough to put him over the top and defeat Snake. :-/

The current poll (as of this post) has L-Block very surprisingly edging far away from Master Chief, Dante (DMC), and Solid Snake. I guess the only shock would be if L-Block actually lost this year's character battle, with the way things are progressing.

Well its on to the final now, and while it is still early, the L-block is winning by a pretty significant margin in the percentage points (nearly 20% at the moment). It looks pretty probable that he(?) will win it all this year.

It's quite amusing (in a agonizing sort of way) to go to their message boards, and see all the Zelda/FFVII fanboys so upset that their beloved characters will lose to the L-Block. But the fact of the matter is, Link or Cloud ends up winning every year. It's refreshing, seeing a new champion after several years of the same.
