Don't know if anyone has seen this. It's sort of a Chrono Trigger clone for DS, but it appears to be a *good* one, so I'm not sure that's a bad thing. Basically, brings back a lot of memories of SNES sprite-based RPGs which is always good:

I did not look too far into it, however the first link I did not scope out anything saying that this was for the Nintendo DS. The movie also stated that it was for the Game Boy Advance, and sported only one screen for the movie. Whatever it is for, it does look quite spectacular. I will definitely have to hook myself up with it.

It was originally for GBA but I believe delays in development forced them to port it over to DS. I think all the screens I posted were from the GBA version.

Edit: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/17/studio-archcrafts-project-exile-planned-for-q1-2008/

Japanese-style role-playing games are hardly a rare commodity, offering players all the big hair and surfboard-sized swords they can handle. Japanese-style real time tactical RPGs on the other hand, not so much, though this is exactly how little known Montreal dev Studio Archcraft describes its long-in development Project Exile, which was this week picked up by publisher Graffiti Entertainment for release next year.

The JRTTRPG was originally announced several years ago as Black Sigil, and in 2004 was planned for release on the then-hopping GBA, though the project was eventually moved to Nintendo's touchable DS handheld, which we assume is its current platform of choice, but really who can be certain? A press release announcing the game's continued existence simply states that it's expected to ship for "a major video game system" in the first quarter of 2008. Honestly Archcraft, why all the mystery? Still, the game's early screenshots give off a warm Alundra feel, which is cause enough to keep this one on the ol' radar.

I've been keeping an eye on that one for a while... there's definitely potential in it.

It really seemed like quite a few of the sprites used for the terrain was borrowed from other games. The one that seemed quite obvious to me was the snowy rocky cliffs, which looked ripped directly from FF6. Could someone with more time and concern check this out for us? Thanks.

Damn... It's like some graphic designer from the mid-90s retaliated and brought quality graphics back, which is a very good thing; I'm tired of everything being outlined or similar to chibi-style. However, there seems to be a heavy influence of Square-style grpahics--Sand that looks like it came from SD3 and was melded with Chrono Trigger graphics, the caves look almost like FF6's... I mean, this IS SNES style, and it's coming back! (Anyone know where a ROM of this is?)

I'll probably get this just because it wants to be an SNES game. Let's face it;who wouldn't want to play a game just to bring back memories?

The graphics are clearly influenced by pre-greed Square. I hope their music is as spectacular.

Supposidly the graphics are "influenced" by Square games like Chrono Trigger, but they assure everyone that all of them are original. So I guess it's ok :P

I saw this today too after reading a news article on zentendo. I'm not crazy about the character portraits, but the game itself looks very Chrono Trigger-ish, even the small details like how the characters run, and the spells, etc. Looks very neat :D

Hmm! screens look great! Can't watch the video at the moment (CURSE YOU SLOW ASS DIAL UUUUP!!!!), but I'm already thinking of getting it. And the Dev team is...in MONTREAL? But...then how is it a JRPG?

:shurg: whatever, if this was made in my city (well...ALMOST my city. I live like right next to it.) then getting this game is a matter of national pride. If not, then getting this gmae is a matter of getting a (possibly) great game.

:o that's it. I'm getting it. Heck, maybe I'll even buy it, as opposed to just snagging the- /me gets shot by everyone in the topic for piracy.

There is the website for the game, though it hasn't been updated in over a year :( But they have some forums there too. Funny, there is apparently a Warlock over there too, but that's not me :P

After looking at the screensies, I wish I could watch the video, but cannot due to a sucky dial-up and an even suckier pc that moves like a snail sometimes.
