View Full Version : Help with Link sprites

Yes, Pineconn needs help. :D

I've recently decided to begin the remake of my first quest, and things aren't starting out very well. What I've decided to do is to take the original file (LOZ tileset) and import all necessary resources (from the PTUX tileset). I've done the tiles, and it will work very well.

However, I decided to do the Link sprites. They... are not working very well. I thought I set up everything the same as the PTUX Link in the PTUX quest file, but apparently I'm missing something. Believe me, I've tried everything within my range of knowledge, but I've never tinkered with the Link sprites before. Worst case scenario is that I begin a PTUX quest file from scratch, then rebuild the quest completely from there, but I'd prefer to do the opposite; that is, how I am doing it now (until I ran into this problem).

[Here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W8GAOZ05)] is my quest file (with 99% of the unnecessary content deleted out in order to prevent cheating or whatnot), and [here (http://www.purezc.com/Tilesets/s42.zip)] is the PTUX quest file in case you don't have it. I'm using 2.10. BTW, the starting screen is 6B.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ignoring this would make me unhappy.

Did you choose BS Animation in the box where you choose the Link Sprites? Maybe that's the problem. Regular LoZ Link sprites use the regular animation.

Yes, I did that.

You're making a remake of EoT? So is it meant to accopany mine, or to replace mine because it is utter crap?

I can't think of why your having problems with Link sprites though. I'll see if I can think of anything.

The BS Animation was broken in 2.10, so I imagine that is where your trouble is.

No no no no, I've always planned on making a remake. And of course it isn't going to replace yours.

So I really wonder why the Link sprites work in the PTUX quest, but not in mine. Very odd. So it looks like I'm going to have to totally replace the maps (since exporting the maps doesn't want to work for me, of course) in a fresh PTUX quest, unless someone can resolve this problem. Oh well.

I tried doing my version that way and trust me, it doesn't work out very well. It's easier to just start with a new file.

You would know if you hadn't ignored my post. ;)
Like I said, 2.10 has a bug that won't allow you to change the BS animation

OoOooOOohHhhhHHHhhHHhhHHHHhhHHhhhhhHHhhhhhHHHHHh.

PTUX was a 1.92 quest. Thaaaaaat makes sense. I didn't ignore your post, it just didn't click until now. So I suppose I have to start over. Good thing I just started.

Thank you. :)

Heck the new betas work better then 2.10 (IMO) plus, you have a host of new features and unlimited ability with scripting, but hey its your quest :)

Eh. I wanted to do it now. I've been teetering on whether I should use 2.10 or 2.5, but it's not like I need 2.5 to remake a 2.10 quest.

Yes...but we have the technology to rebuild it faster, stronger, smarter, harder than ever. :sly:

Plus *slaps Pineconn upside the head* ...why would you want to use 2.10 anyway?

EDIT: That's post 1111....I can never post again.

Well, after using the betas, I can see the advantages of 2.5, but you can't say that about 2.10 :( It was great!
(well obviously 2.10.2 was better but still)

2.10 definitely got its job done, and I still find it sufficient.

Gleeok - What was that about post 1111?

I've decided just to use the PTUX file.

Works for me.

Oh my gosh! That screen is wonderful. My version has so much less detail. I'm going to go make some touch ups to the DOR version, then I'll post my version of that screen. By the way, Pineconn, it is a lot easier to remake EoT using 2.11. Trust me, I just did.

Why doesn't Link have a sword in that screenshot? He starts out with one in the original.

Because I didn't add it yet. :p

This quest is going to be cool. :D
