snes9x cheats

Anyone know how to apply game genie cheats in the snesx9x_151?
I put them in hit add and then exit and they don't work and when I re-enter the cheat dialog they are gone.
Am I missing a step?

You sure you're clicking OK and not using the X out or cancel? And for codes to work their checkbox on the left must be checked, and under the cheat menu the "Apply Cheats" must be checked.

I'm doing it how the read me file says and what was posted on their forum, just doesn't want to work.
It does work in the zsnes, so I don't know what it's problem is.
The znes squirrels out my system though, makes me have to reboot a lot.
I got the images I want for now so I'll leave the fight for another day. ;)
