If you haven't heard of it, read the review here (http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=ikaruga) from Maddox (http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net) himself.

I've been wanting to play it for ages and it appears to be the single greatest scrolling shooter game ever made. It's going to be released on XBL, so it'll probably cost around 800 to 1000 points.

The release date is still TBA, but rumors are circulating that it could be released within the next few weeks!

Maybe if shooters like this do well enough on consoles, companies will consider releasing them as arcades stateside again. (That is if arcades haven't already died around here.)

So you have never played it before? If you haven't, take my advice: don't buy it right out. I heard tons of praise for Ikaruga too, and being one of the rarer titles on the Gamecube I thought I should track it down before it was impossible to get. Thankfully I met someone who had it, so I was able to borrow it.

Visually the game is very nice. The music is great too. The gameplay is like this - your ship can change colors from white<->black. While black you absorb black energy fired at you, and you can damage white enemies. When you are white it's just the opposite. Once you have absorbed enough energy you can release it in a huge blast. It's simple and sounds like a lot of fun, but the problem is the game is hard, damn hard. I like hard games, but not ones that frustrate me to death, and Ikaruga happens to be one of those games.

So, in my opinion Ikaruga is not for everyone, even if you are a fan of vertical scrolling shooters. (I happened to enjoy Raiden II in the arcade quite a bit)

My friends an I all put our money together to buy it last year.

>_< my brain is still hurting from when Ikaruga pwned my ass on the first level and then laughed at my noobishness.

...I t took me something like 10 continues to actually beat it...ON EASY MODE.

...Yeah, it's hard. Very hard.

I love challenging games. The harder, the better. I'm the type of person that plays God of War on God Mod the first time through. :P

lol, alright then. Ikaruga may be for you then.

Have you played F-Zero GX? There's another game to play if you want a challenge - it's hard, but not impossible. Plus it makes other "futuristic" racers look pathetic in terms of sense of speed.

Ikaruga is a great game, but you should play the game that came before it, Radiant Silvergun. That's another great title. Also Trigger Heart Exlica (or something like that name) is coming too and it's another shooter. Ofcourse the whole appeal would be to play it online together I think. Not sure if that will be in it.
