Quote: The Federal Communications Commission approved rules Tuesday night that it says will ensure that millions of cable subscribers will still be able to watch broadcast programming after the digital television transition in 2009.

The FCC says approximately 40 million households are analog-only cable subscribers. Tuesday's ruling will require cable operators to guarantee analog cable customers will receive broadcast channels until February 2012.

Meanwhile, on the sixth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, the commission also approved new rules that will allow police and firefighters to better locate cell phone callers who dial 911 in an emergency.

-------

Analog cable tv customers just got a reprieve. Looks like ultimately they get until the year 2012 before they have to consider changing their homes to digital.

That's what you would call procrastinators... if they wait that is.

By digital, do you mean like HDTV and such?

Digital is just digital, it is not HD. Digital does look a lot better than analog though.

No. Digital signal.

EDIT: I fucking hate digital cable. My mom ordered some bullshit box for the TV in our living room so she can still watch HBO. So instead of using the perfectly okay and fast analog tuner in our TV, we have to use the slow and clumsy tuner in the box. Fuck digital television signals, they're completely unnecessary.

It's getting better and faster all the time. Eventually there won't even be anything to complain about that wasn't also present in analog cable. Meanwhile, yes, digicable sucketh.

Digital signals are kinda slow, but I've found that most of the lag comes from the box, they put some terrible processors in there.
