View Full Version : Why does everyone love Dane Cook?

I don't understand what's so funny about him? He acts like a stupid ass on stage and his jokes aren't even that funny. All I can see that's great about him is that he has a good voice, but that's all I'll give him. Seriously, I don't understand it.

I do find a lot of his material funny, but he is over rated.
It just happens man, people jump on the band wagon quick. It's America.
Someone else will come along soon to take the wagon.

Here's something great I heard about his comedy, people cheer more than they laugh at it. Kind of interesting.

I've heard that his old comedy is better, but I just watched 10 minutes of his HBO special and didn't laugh once. I'd rather watch George Carlin.

I don't find Dane Cook to be that funny myself. I agree that he is quite overrated. I prefer comics like George Carlin or Lewis Black.

I never really listened to Dane Cook that much. George Carlin is okay, but in my book, if you have to resort to lots of swearing and inappropriate jokes to get your laughs, you're not for me. I like Bill Cosby.

Joe Rogan is way funnier than Dane Cook. Like Warlord said, Dane Cook is just the lattest flavor of bubble gum.

Couldn't care less. I'm more of a Robin Williams fan. :kitty:

It's bad when people are cheering instead of laughing. It reminds me of those stupid pep rallies at High School, when what seemed like the entire student body would burst out cheering at every dumb little thing or comment. It all sounds very insincere and socially motivated.

I think he's funny, but not "oh my God this is the funniest shit ever" funny, like some people seem to think he is. I remember I was watching part of the HBO special where he was on tour, and he went back to his high school in Boston. One of the kids there said to him, "you're like a god." All I could think was "no!" That kid had a really messed up sense of personal worth. A comedian is not a god. Not even close.

same. Dane cook doesn't have jokes, he just does the very old style of DID YOU EVER NOTICE? WELL ISN'T THAT FUNNY? it's just pop culture he's already faded from the picture quite a bit.

^^I wouldn't say he's faded, he's doing the promos for the baseball postseason. He's actually not a bad choice for it, since like I said before, he has a good voice.

I like Dane Cook because the stuff he says is universal. The way he tells it, even if I haven't experienced it myself, I understand it.

Everyone knows Dave Chappelle is the best.

All the clips with him in the yellow shirt and grey jacket are awesome.

Word.

The koolaid thing was pretty funny, but nothing like some other comedians I've seen/heard. I don't know much about Dane Cook myself. I haven't heard/seen most of his stuff.

Dave Chappelle is definitely the shit when it comes to being funny.

Carlos Mencia is a favorite of mine. Mind of Mencia on Comedy Central Sundays at 10pm.

He hasn't been as good this season, but his first was good, and so was his stand up special on Comedy Central. I've heard his stand up outside of that, but I can't listen to it. Every other word is fuck and I get tired of it.

Mencia takes the racism a little too far. Yeah, he's good at it, but there's only so many Mexican jokes I can hear before I get incredibly bored.

Carlos Mencia steals his material. Joe Rogan and a bunch of other comedians already called him out on it. He's shit, utter shit.

A good comedian, if you like British humor, is Eddie Izzard (http://http://www.eddieizzard.com/home.izz). I find him very funny, but you've got to pay attention because he sometimes jumps all over the place. Still, if you know just a little about world events he's got some awesome jokes.

The guy who did the show Distraction was hilarious. I've seen his standup and it's so much better with video because he always has a serious face.

Jimmy Carr is his name. Here's one of his shows, I haven't seen all of it so I don't know if it's that good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozLTEVR4RBQ

You are right. Jimmy Carr is very good. I didn't think of him because I don't think they have aired his standup in a while. His humor was a good fit for Distraction. I liked that show. I hope they decide to make more episodes.

^^I'm pretty sure that Distraction is dead and gone. The only show that stays on the air on Comedy Central is South Park.

I dunno, I always found Dane Cook hilarious. Of course he has a good voice. Having a good voice is a key factor in being a comedian. He's not too bad of an actor though either. I've seen him in Employee of the Month. I'm eager to see him in a serious role in Mr. Brooks.

Like Decipher said, his stuff is universal. It's the kind of every day shit about the world and the way he explains everything just makes it funny. Obviously some people arn't gonna like him. Comedy is like music, not every one will like that same thing. Which makes this thread completely pointless. It's no different than a thread about why people like <Insert Popular Band Here>.
