Seems the PS3 is going to be $100 cheaper:

Is there anyone here who's going to get one now? Personally I still don't want one right now. Doesn't really have much to play that I couldn't already play on my 360.

I'm still gonna wait. I can't afford it right now even if I wanted to. And even then, there STILL aren't enought good games out right now to warrent buying it. At least enough to interest me. :kitty:

Not me. No games, and the 360 serves me well enough.

I'm still having troubles justifying the cost of the 360 so it's even more difficult to justify the PS3.

$300 is too much for a console really. $250 is the magic number that is basically where I put my foot down.

Meh... $500 doesn't cut it for me. There still aren't enough games on the system for me to give a rat's ass about it.

I haven't bought either a 360 or a PS3 yet, and I'm still leaning toward the 360 even though Metal Gear will be on PS3. If the PS3 jumps down another $100 i might consider PS3.

I'm not even willing to pay for a Wii, so what would that tell you about these other consoles?

Now games on the computer, that's what I'd be willing to pay for.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Sony Corp. has no plans to cut the price of its PlayStation 3 (PS3) at present to pep up demand and counter surging sales of Nintendo's rival game console Wii, Sony's president said on Friday.

It sounds like the price won't be dropping, after all.

Yeah, $300 is pricey for a console. I remember when I was younger and some of the more obscure consoles like the 3DO had price tags like that, I'd just gawk at the astronomity of it. Back then, I didn't get things for Christmas if they cost more than $200.

Yeah, I'm still planning on getting a 360. There's really nothing that interests me on the PS3 that I won't be able to get on the 360, save for FF13. And honestly, given Square's recent track record, I might pass on that game.

So.. big question is, why didn't Sony make it this price in the first place?

I could maybe see shelling out 300 bucks for a console, but anything over that is right out. If I'm spending that kinda money, I'll just upgrade my computer.

A hundred down, three hundred left to go.

Oh, and knocking about $20 off of game prices would be nice too.

Despite Ryoji Chubachi's remarks, it seems that many retail stores have received conflicting reports from Sony. Some Target stores have already dropped their price points, and stock managers for many other stores have already confirmed the PS3 will be selling for less. It seems like Sony may simply be upset that the news was leaked, ruining their ability to make a big announcement at e3 next week.

That's most likely it, they just don't want their thunder stolen. It's the only good news they'll have for E3.

I forked out the extra cash for the XBOX 360 Elite, and so far it's been worth every cent. The arcade, multiplayer, and library of games is awesome. I also have it networked to my PC and laptop, which have over a terabyte of movies and television which I can stream, wirelessly if I wanted, directly to my TV. It's sweeeeeet!

Also, from what I hear, the PS3's online capabilities pale in comparison to the XBOX 360.

They're going to need to improve it a lot more than just a price drop for me to ever consider picking one up.

MottZilla
07-07-2007, 09:48 PM
Ya that is a big issue with the PS3, it's online capability is as bad as the PS2 nearly. While this might work in some areas and with some demographics (like th e typical PS2 player) a lot of us that spend the most on electronics and gaming expect and want online a good multiplayer experience and such.

PS3 really is just a new PS2 in the sense that the hardware isn't all that amazing or well thought out but it's sufficant, complete with development complexity and a shitty early line up. I don't get it, Playstation 1 atleast had a decent design for the time.

The thing is that it's probably too late. Developers saw shitty sales and shifted resources to Wii and 360. So now, price drops but you still get no good titles and consequently people don't buy. Sony is kinda screwed at this point. It just has way too much bad press (and frankly they deserved it with the shit they said). So ya, should have done this 8 months ago :p

p.s. - I hate typing on Wii... stupid too lazy to turn on my computer.......

Sony isn't fucked yet, but their dominance they had last generation they've made sure it won't carry on by now. However depending how fast the PS3 can come down in price really is half of what determines the success of it and the other how soon they can get high quality titles people really want.

Now people are spculating that a Xbox 360 price cut is to follow shortly. That would be nice for those who haven't jumped on board yet.

The PS3 price drop has been confirmed according to this article.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070709/ap_on_hi_te/sony_pricing_6

They are also introducing an 80 GB model that will be priced at $599, but the 60 GB will go down to $499.

Woot! Still not buying one!

A 360 price drop would be swell though. I'd pick one up again. A job offer would also be swell.

MottZilla

Just think if they didnt drop the 20GB model and you could get a PS3 for 399$. I bet you it'd sell pretty well then.

Cloral
07-13-2007, 12:30 PM
Well it looks like the whole price cut was a bit of a lie. Sony's replacing the 60gb model with the 80gb model, and that will still sell for $599. The reduced price on the 60gb model is simply to try and get them off store shelves as soon as possible to make way for the 80gb model.

So if you want a PS3 for whatever reason, you'd better go pick one up now before the price goes up again.

This also probably means that a 360 price cut isn't likely anytime soon.

biggiy05
07-13-2007, 01:05 PM
The current model isn't selling so why would you go and add another 20gb and discontinue the model on store shelves? That doesn't make much sense to me.

Well, you can still sort of find used ones. But I was checking last night to see which one would be cheaper, since our store actually has a used 20gb PS3 in stock.

If I were to buy a used Xbox 360 (w/wireless controller) + a used 20gb HDD it still ends up cheaper by about $30 then if I were to by a used 20gb PS3, and at that point, your getting the same thing. So I guess the question is how much does someone want that Blu-Ray player. It's only $30, but $30 is $30.

Blah blah blah, Sony sucks, yadda yadda yadda. We've heard this before. I'm getting very tired of hearing it.

Even if Sony drops the price, I still don't want a PS3. I think I could name the must-have titles on one hand, and still be able to pick up a pen. That's my main concern. If it doesn't have the games, there's no point in buying the damned brick of a system, period.
