That's a sweet wallet.

I want to buy the yellow Mustang from Death Proof! But that's a bit out of my price range. =[

Related to that^ I've seen, like, three people who got Mustangs recently in my ghetto-ass neighborhood. How the fuck do people afford Mustangs and they live in this dunghole?

You should raid the machine at your work and put the sodas on the desk of what ever you don't like.

I actually always go home with two sodas. One for that day, and the another goes into the fridge, where I might have some of it and then save it for the next day or whatever. By the weekend, I've always got atleast 4 sodas. I plan out my survival well.

Tell me about it. I used to work at a grocery store and frequently I would help customers take their things out to their car for them.

There was this guy who I swear had to be a drug dealer. He came into the store and paid for the majority of his grocieries with food stamps. Every month or so, the guy had a brand new car. A NEW car. He'd sell the other one and just buy another frequently.

That stuff really pisses me off, personally. I mean, he had some sweet cars, I was jealous of the CARS...

But the guy comes in and gets his food with food stamps, but he's driving a shiney new car that he'll brag to me about as he's getting into the vehicle.

I totally hear you on that one, Shazza Dani. Things like that just prove how people will gladly abuse the system. Some people need it, then there's the scum of the earth that will use it to their advantage.

But, meh. I'm not trying to turn this into a rant that should be in GB, so I'll walk away while I'm ahead :P

Sorry to hear that, Russ. I got sick on Easter once as a kid - ugh, one of the worst days to be sick on, next to Halloween (and I've managed to be sick on Halloween, as well). And it's not even that I just gorged myself on candy those two times and made myself sick that way - no, I got sick before I even got to eat any candy, which just sucks.

And actually, Russ, my mom doesn't really believe in hell, at least in the traditional sense, and she certainly doesn't believe one will go to hell simply for not showing up for church every Sunday. It's more of a community involvement thing with her.

EDIT: Well of course eveything's closed for Easter - don't you know of the great Easter tradition of people barricading themselves up to protect themselves from the return of Zombie Christ?

You are? I think I got less than 50% of items when I beat the game (or maybe it was around 56%, I can't remember). Just so you know, if you've got at least 50 missiles, you're good. You're charge beam will suffice in more places. You'll see why as soon as you land on Phaaze... Which is definitely the most fun planet.

Partly it'ss to get the extended ending (but you only need 75% for that, and I already have that covered), but mostly it's just because I have an obsessive need to collect power-ups. I want to be able to say to my enemies "Look, I can unload 200 missiles into you without even blinking." I also want to make sure that I didn't miss any energy tanks or anything.

Also, can anyone tell me what purpose ship missile upgrades serve?

Ya, I didn't get the extended ending, so I'll need you to tell me what it is. :) By the way, if you get 100% of the items, you get a secret twice extended ending. So typical of Metroid games. :)

As for ship missile upgrades, I think they serve no purpose except as a random item you have to collect to get 100%.

On one hand the force unleshed (PS2) wants my attention. But I also just picked up Ratchet and clank (Played only 15 minutes in a store 3 years ago, but FREAKING LOVED IT), and I also just got Tales of symphonia's sequel. Plus, I'm playing Persona 1 on my PC, and working on that RPG project...

Oh wait...I forgot, I also have to play Xenosaga, Unlimited Saga, borrow a friend's PS2 because mine won't run Chrono Cross, and wrap up Custom robo's Grand Battle segment... Wow, I'm loaded with games, aren't I?

But (and I'm vey sad to say it), there is one game I have tha tI doubt I'm gonna finish in a lon gitme, if ever. Sonic. Freakin. Unleashed. I LOOOVE the speed levels (with the exception of chunan), but modsbannit, the ice Werehog levels are just too freaking annoying. The ice floe had that stupid PoS platforming with enemies on rickety little platforms right at the end, and now that ice temple has this TINY little walkway I need to walk on, and I'm at such a bad angle that it's next to impossible to stay on. Oh, and to make it worse, I have enemies chucking snowball while I'm at it.

... And to cap it all off if It wasn't so late right now, I'd either be doing the last dungeon of Crystal Chronicles Echoes of time (on normal), or playing Demenitum (the EU version, obviously, since they fixed the save system).

....Yeah, I have no life. Unless you count that green mushroom I Keep on my night table

Hooray, MP3 completed. Sadly, though, I was apparently two items short of 100%. Oh well. As far as the extended ending - I can't be sure, having not seen the unextended ending, but it looks to be that it's Samus going back to Elysia and watching the storm clouds while thinking of her former friends that she had to kill.

Russ

Ouch. That's got to be hard on her. Having to kill her own friends. Mine just ended with her flying bast Admiral Dane and giving him the thumbs up.

I like the Advance generation better. I'm more familiar with the attacks, natures, and all that stuff. Plus I love the graphics in those games. Ruby and Sapphire weren't as pretty, but FR/LG and Emerald look great.
I swear, everybody I know likes them better just because of the graphics. Sheesh, graphics don't make a game, you know.

Aegix: Is Sonic Unleashed really that good? I love the old Sonic games (Sonic 3 and Knuckles is the best sidescrolling game, except maybe Mario World), but I have to say, I've hated most of the new ones. Is it worth getting considering that I don't like the majority of the new ones? And do you need any Wii suggestions? I have a few.

The_Amaster
04-15-2009, 09:48 PM
Well, Sonic Unleashed definitely isn't like the old ones, the day stages are super fast and platform-lite, while the night stages are really slow and platform heavy. However, if you don't like the newer 3-D games, rest assured, SU plays a lot better than them. The daytime stages are crazy fun and addictive, I keep playing them over and over just for the fun of it. And the nighttime stages range from mediocre to actually somewhat fun, although nowhere near the day stages. Oh, and the daytime controls are perfect. Seriously. The ability to drift, a-la Mario Kart, makes turning so much smoother and less flow-breaking. This is the best control I've ever seen Sonic have.

So yeah, I'd recommend it.
Actually, here's a YouTube link to one of the daytime stages. Its as fun as it looks, so if that looks fun, you'd enjoy it.

Okay, I guess I'll get it. You know, I'm starting to think they've run out of ideas. The storylines are starting to get really cliche.

And ya, S3&K is awesome. I've beaten it 100% with Sonic and Tails, and just beat it with Knuckles today. Now I just need to get all the Super Emeralds with him.

Hmm, you check out the link I posted 30 seconds ago? I think you'll enjoy it. It's to the Europe-like Spagonia stage, one of my three favorites.

Yeah, Sonic 3 was the first title my brother and I bought on VC. It was like, not even a question. We poured so many hours into that game when we were younger. That, Kid Chameleon, and Shining Force.

Ooh, go for it, Hyper Knuckles is worth it.

My.

EVER.

Bet in the whole series. Lots of levels, multiple paths, multiple chareacters that play similarly but different, and above all SUPER SONIC IN NORMAL LEVELS.

:P I've beaten the game all the way. All emeralds, etc. I tell ya, Super tails is soooo overpowered it's not funny.

I looove that game.

SUPER TAILS! HOMING FLICKIES FOR THE WIN!

Yeah, I've beaten it completely as well. Geez, hours spent playing Mushroom Hill trying to get all those damn Super Emeralds.
Yeah, Sonic, Knuckles and Tails all had just different enough abilities to make each level feel different. And lets not forget a final boss fight of truly epic proportions. Damn that was a big robot.

Dude, my brother always feels ripped off after getting all the emeralds and being unable to play super in regular levels in newer games. S3 spoiled us.

The entire EV/IV growth system was changed between the GB/C and GBA games, and the battle system was heavily altered.

If the remakes were identical to the origanals, save for the graphics, I might consider playing the older games. But the Advance games are just better.

The_Amaster

True, but EV/IVs really only matter if you battle competitively.

Um, they are, basically. IVs and EVs don't matter. I'd actually argue that Yellow's better because you get all three of the starters, plus a Pikachu that actually has defense, and won't die in one hit.

Shazza Dani

It's an overpowered team, but, meh, choose whoever you want. I try to pick the pokémon I like, not necessarily based on how strong they are.

Out of the original 150 my ideal team would probably be •Slowbro •Electabuzz •Golbat •Mr. Mime •Charizard, aaand I don't know who my sixth guy would be. I usually only have five well-trained pokémon by the end of the game.

Same here. I won't touch 80% of them because they're so ugly. The only thing is that I might have picked a marowak instead of a sandslash, but I found the sandshrew really early in the game at a high level, so I got it. Other than that, it's my perfect team.

I'm sorry, but no game is worth 5 hours outside gamestop for that. Not to me, anyways.

I think the most I've ever waited in the cold for something was about 20 minutes for Best Buy to open for the day after Thanksgiving Sale. It was kind of funny actually. There were people tailgating in the parking lot with BBQ grills for food and heat. I got there I guess after all of the hot dogs must've been gone. I was standing in line to get the new HD-DVD players that were on sale that also came with 10 free HD movies. I'm sure everyone knows WHY they were on sale now, to get rid of them.

And that's why I hate BluRay, even if it does look great. I'd go into more of it, but then it'd belong in GB instead.

I did fall asleep once in my car in my driveway. It was freezing outside and I was so dead tired. I woke up colder than I have ever been. I got inside and couldn't get warm. When I breathed out, my breath was also cold (while I was inside). I stripped down and grabbed my robe and stood over a space heater to try and warm up, but couldn't. So I just jumped in bed and shivered myself to sleep. I didn't even get sick, which is kind of odd.

My brother and I leave the house at 8:50, on our bikes, ot ride a mile and a half to school, because there's set construction for Drama club today.

We arrive at 9:06 to find our stage filled with the school band, because it turns out that there was a concert today (that our tech manager forgot about, even though he's in band)
So, obviously, the build day is canceled, as our stuff is backstage, the band is frontstage, and theres no quiet and/or surreptitious way to get it. Rode there in the heat for nothing.

...
this concert?
my brother is supposed to be in it. Like, in his tux. On stage. At 9:15. In seven minutes.
Needless to say, several frantic calls ensued in which parents scrambled for clothing, drove out to the school, dropped them off to the figure of a boy who promptly starts running flat out towards the bathroom to change before his section of the band goes on.

I left as he was running. I think he might make it.

OH? Up to the Falls? I'm jealous either way. We drive by the there (the Falls) all the time (when heading East ... for family gathers in Idaho)... but we've yet to stop by there. Maybe one day.

I'd like to go back to Mt. St. Helens soon... and see what all has changed over there. I'd also like to go to Depot Bay, Oregon ... to the Sea Hag Restaurant for a bowl of their MOSTEST DELICIOUS Clam Chowder. :)

My dad took me up to the Apple Store today to pick out my new laptop as a graduation present. (Please, no grief about 'haha, apple sucks". I'm looking at you Bel)
We get it back home, it's all good, I'm setting it up, than ten minutes in, my entire screen fades to gray, with pinstripes. Like...glitchy gray pinstripes.
After time with tech support, they figure it's a problem with the graphics card.
All I gotta do is trade it in.

I just wish I didn't live an hour from the nearest store. Fun trip tomorrow.

I mean,I'm not really frustrated with Apple. As soon as it became clear it was a hardware issue, they immediately said I should just trade it in at no charge. I just wish I lived closer.

And for the record, the reason I'm getting a Mac?
a.) I can install XP in parallel, run my PC programs when I need to, and b.) my dad, being a professional graphic artist, can outfit me with Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver, etc, etc, a bunch of top notch stuff.

I do not think Apple sucks or that they make bad computers. I just don't think their computers justify the higher prices and I find Apple's marketing to be horribly annoying.

I don't like it when a company founded by nerds tells me I'm not hip because I use Windows. The more Apple tries to get me to worry about being hip, the higher I hike my pants and higher up on my nose I push my reading glasses.

Also, almost no games run on Apple computers, a one button mouse is undesirable, iTunes is an annoying, invasive application that I do not want, iPods and iPhones are ridiculously overpriced, U2 is the worst band in history, and none of the software the I use on a daily basis is available for Mac.

I in no way fault other people for using Mac if it fits their needs. It just doesn't fit mine, and I'm glad because their marketing is horrible and obnoxious.

"internment" camps huh? That's what they are calling them? My history teacher just called them what they were, concentration camps. He even said that the US put out all kinds of propaganda about how Germany was doing this, but didn't mention that they were themselves. From what I recall, the US wasn't gassing them, but many did die in them.

Kind of funny, my book had a whole section on them being called concentration camps. I can tell you, although it was wrong that they were put in internment camps, they were certainly not concentration camps.

Beldaran

although it was wrong that they were put in internment camps, they were certainly not concentration camps.

What is the difference?

Russ
05-08-2009, 01:37 PM
Internment camps: Camps where Japanese were relocated so they would be away from the coast, because a Japanese sub surfaced off the coast of Oregon, and everybody thought that a Japanese invasion was coming.

Concentration camps: Camps where Hitler unleashed his hatred against the Jews by systematically murdering them, then burning the bodies.

Surely you can see the difference. I'm not saying I agree with the decision for the internment camps, but they were certainly not concentration camps.

Beldaran
05-08-2009, 01:50 PM
Incorrect. Not all German concentration camps were death camps. Many were work camps, and/or just internment camps.

Correct definition:

Internment Camp: A military controlled enclosure where a powerful state entity imprisons individuals it fears or loathes.

Concentration Camp: A military controlled enclosure where a powerful state entity imprisons individuals it fears or loathes.

Some concentration camps were death camps. Some were not. All were internment camps.

I am not arguing for a moral equivalency between death camps and Japanese internment camps. However, there is, in reality, no difference between a concentration camp and an internment camp. They are synonyms.

A concentration camp where genocide took place is a subset of internment camps, not a separate entity. The USA did not commit genocide against the Japanese prisoners. However, it is an undeniable fact that the USA imprisoned its citizens on racial/nationalist grounds.

Russ
05-08-2009, 04:40 PM
Well, with that definition, I guess they were concentration camps. However, when most people think of concentration camps, they think of Nazi death camps. So labeling the camps Japanese-Americans were sent to as concentration camps can be very, very misleading.

rock_nog
05-08-2009, 04:49 PM
Well, the problem of concentration camps being confused with death camps is more a problem of lack of knowledge rather than a problem of linguistic clarity, if you ask me. It's like how many people confuse the term "scientific theory" with the layman's definition of a theory. You don't revise the language because people are ignorant.

Beldaran
05-08-2009, 05:17 PM
You don't revise the language because people are ignorant.

Exactly. Facts are not a democracy. "Most people" is not a measuring stick with which to measure the legitimacy of an idea.

"Most people" think American Idol is a good show. I loathe the idea that all language and ideas must conform to the drooling, lethargic stupidity of "most people".

"Most people" don't read books or know anything about history, political theory, science, philosophy, or basic logic.

I find it weird that people keep naming flus and such after animals. Chicken Pox, Mad Cow Disease (I know it affected cows, but it would people sick too), Avian Flu, Swine Flu, Rosie O'Donnell... you see the pattern here?

What happened to cool disease names like Scarlet Fever, The Black Plague, Leprosy, Paris Hilton... Where's the originality anymore?

Also, do we really need a new name each year for the flu? Can't it be just "the flu" like it has been for years now? Ever wonder if maybe the beef industry has just been trying to drum up business for their loss from the Mad Cow Disease that ruined a bunch of beef? Poulrty... Pork...
My guess is that next years flu pandemic will be something to do with either fish or goats.
Oceanianic Flu
Or maybe
Goat Raper's Flu

I know you're probably too young to remember the beginning of the Iraq war, but goddamn they wouldn't shut up about that. They were all fighting each other over the most exclusive coverage of shit being blown up. I know it might not seem like it now, but when the Iraq war first started, the major news stations were tripping over themselves to cover that shit, and absolutely none of that coverage was remotely critical of the Bush administration because they were afraid of losing their exclusives.

He once got a shoe thrown at him... And he also once choked on a pretzel... Yup, those were about it for positives. Actually I think it's just that he was just too easy to make him look like an idiot. Sorry to any of his supporters, but the guy kept doing a lot of it to himself. He once referred to hispanic people as "Hispanos", the terrorists once "misunderestimated" us, he kept saying "nucUlar" even after his wife pointed it out to him on public TV, and the list goes on and on. Yes I'm sure the media has a lot to do with it oin what the look to report. Currently Obama is supposed to be the savior of the US because... I don't know really. Off topic, as the topic may be:

Continuity fail:

I just watched an article on the news about the Cyclone Rollercoaster at Coney Island, the world famous old amusement park of the 1930s located near Brooklyn, NY. The news team filled all of the ride's cars with guests, and sent them off to do an interview on it while the ride was in motion, viewing the scene from the nose of the first car facing the rest of the cars.

Midway through the interview, everyone except the people in the first car suddenly disappeared. We were all left thinking, "Wow, that is one strong rollercoaster."

They all conveniently reappeared when the car reentered the track station.
