I have been debating on getting a Wii since launch. Given that I already own a 360, and having access to a friend's console I did'nt feel the need. With the premiere of Brawl onto the scene, I think I just might get a Wii now... So yeah... definately worth it to more than one person!

Icey
03-15-2008, 05:00 PM
I have a Wii (have had one since like a month after launch) and while I thought it was really cool at first I have basically not touched it for most of the time I've had it. Playing wii sports with friends was fun at first but there aren't many games worth playing for the wii. Twilight princess wasn't very good in my opinion but I played it anyway. MP3 was decent but not terribly exciting considering I played MP2 right before and it was almost the same game. Super Mario Galaxy was thoroughly enjoyable and I only have good things to say about it. I haven't gotten Brawl yet.

But yeah, if you don't have a Wii, don't sweat it... if you're anything like me, you'll probably just let it collect dust once you own it.

Vanilla milk? That really exists? Doesn't it just taste like regular milk?

Pineconn

No, it tastes like melted vanilla ice cream, actually. For a more accurate description, it tastes like white milk with vanilla flavoring. :p It's pretty good, but it gets sickening if you drink it more than two days in a row (like I used to a few years ago).

Icey
03-16-2008, 02:05 AM
There are these ice blended drinks we can get on campus with our meal plan that aren't that bad. So over spring break for government class I have to (among a huge amount of writing) memorize the presidents from 1945 on.

Rather than just do the work, I figure I'll listen to the Animaniacs President song every day until I know the lyrics by heart. Then I'll know all the presidents. :D

That's a large amount of effort for something you'll later forget because it has no real reward. Much more effective (and worthwhile) is to learn some of the details of the presidential campaigns and the effects each president had in office. Then you'll be able to list them, like phattonez did, with no problem. I can do it because I know the history of the campaigns, what was at stake, and how each president changed American history. =)

phattonez
03-18-2008, 09:34 PM
Haha, Icey, I don't think that I've remembered that much detail. I do know how Truman won, Eisenhower's "I like Ike" campaign, JFK trying to look young compared to Nixon, but that's about it. I do know the importance of each president though, and that's the most important thing.

I did like "The President's" series on the History Channel. That will really help you learn the presidents (but if you're going to watch the whole series of presidents expect it to take literally all day.

-Complete, and print out my print portfolio
-Fix up all the problems with my Multimedia portfolio, and burn it on a CD, and make a label for it.
-Make a 45 second non-interactive web showcase thingy (which is a very vague assignment) and make a labe, and burn it.
- make a bunch of business cards and integrate them, my resumes, and my multimedia CDs into my print portfolio.

...I haven't even started the interactive stuff yet.

...Oh, and this is pass or fail. The teacher told us that she (and a few other teachers) will evaluate our work, and either allow us to go on stage, or force us to re-do this whole semester.

:o I am looking at some sleepless nights I think...

..wish me luck! *dashes off to get straight to work!!!!!*

Sounds like busy work to me, but anyway . . .

I know I should probably take a shower right now, but both of my roommates are taking finals right now and I'm feeling lazy and listening to Bob Dylan. Studying for LS is just not a viable option right now.

I've got a Chemistry test tomorrow, but I've had everything down since we learned it. My only problem is the difference between Ketones and Aldehydes, and Ethers and Esters, because we didn't really cover them, but I'll have it down by then.

phattonez
03-19-2008, 08:36 PM
Ketones are in the middle of a chain, aldehydes are at the end, that's how I remembered. Esters are the oxygen's in the middle of a chain, and ethers? Well, why can't I remember ethers? I only had that test on Sunday.

The_Amaster
03-19-2008, 08:40 PM
As far as I remember Esters and Ethers are either an Oxygen in the middle of the chain, or an Oxygen in the middle with a double-bonded Oxygen on the adjacent Carbon.
I'm going to go look it up.

EDIT: Okay, Ester:

I beg to differ. Do you know what working with this pile of scrap metal is like? It has such a slow reaction time, that after you click on an shortcut, you have to wait about two minutes for the program to start. It's painful!

And just so you know, I have quite a bit of homework too. :)

The_Amaster
03-19-2008, 08:54 PM
Yeah, sounds like my desktop.
It's actually taught me short term patience. Nothing like waiting for a minuite and a half for Firefox to start up to teach you to wait.

Annoying as hell, though. And I keep losing memory, like every few days it tells me that I'm down to less than 200 megs, and I have to clear more stuff off. I think I may have gotten a virus, but AdAware and AVG haven't caught anything, so I'm probably going to run a wipe over break.

Speaking of Firefox, it's starting to annoy me. I was using IE, until somebody suggested to me that IE could be causing the large loading times on some forums. So I switched to Firefox. And now, bam! Every thing's to fast. My avatar slashes the sword so fast you can hardly see it.

If you keep losing memory, go to task manager and see if there's a memory leak.

Pineconn
03-19-2008, 09:36 PM
I'm always concerned about my computer's commit charge and page file usage. They get dangerously high to the peak (thanks to Desktop Weather, McAfee, IE, ZQuest, and Zelda Classic, which use an insane amount of memory). I've had more breathing room after I uninstalled every AOL program I used to have.

The_Amaster
03-19-2008, 09:45 PM
Hmm, where would a Memory Leak be under Task manager?

Pineconn
03-19-2008, 09:50 PM
You'd want to click on the Processes tab, then click on the Mem Usage column so that the higher ones are listed first. If one of them is obscenely higher than the rest (like, 1,623,023 K), then you know you have a leak.

I could be completely wrong about that, so correct me if I'm wrong.

The_Amaster
03-19-2008, 09:53 PM
Nope, nothing higher than Firefox at 38,000. Hmm, wonder what's up.

phattonez
03-19-2008, 09:54 PM
It doesn't have to be obscenely high. Firefox can be really high up there, and it may seem normal, but it's not. There is a way to limit how much memory Firefox can use; once you do that your whole computer will start to run faster.

Meh, it's just the blue eyes. Cats are still pretty worthless.Agreed. They're not obedient (unless you have food/catnip of course) and they don't help do anything around the house (unless you count chasing down houseflies).

Cats aren't really evil, they're just portrayed as evil on every cartoon, movie, tv show, etc. There's a grain of truth to most stereotypes... this is certainly one of them.

Oh yeah, I forgot about AGN. I've been enjoying a game I haven't played for half a decade: SimTheme Park. It basically allows you to build and manage a theme park of your dreams, while keeping your guests and staff happy (as well as pranksters out of trouble). While the ultimate goal is to earn dough, you can earn golden tickets by completing certain tasks, and you can cash in these tickets for golden keys to unlock any of the game's four parks.

Anyway, this game doesn't work on Windows XP, but I finally found a patch today. Thus, I've been playing it all day long. Has AGN enjoyed a rather Pineconnless day?

While earning my AA degree I went through several different "phases" of majors. For the longest time I was set on a degree in International Economics, but finally after quite a bit of introspection, and working in a professional enviroment, I settled on Architecture and transferred to one of the best programs in the state (University of Florida). My goal is to one day be my own boss, not work the rest of my life for somebody else. You have to decide what YOU want out of life and figure out what your skills and strengths are, then choose a major that suits the career and lifestyle you want.

That's something I fear, though -- changing majors. I don't want to virtually waste an n number of years of college (and tuition), which is why I'm hoping to pick the right major/career first. At least the directions have been clear from everyone I've asked, that I should pick a major that involves my skills, strengths, and interests.

Write 'em all up on a dartboard, set it spinning, and let fly. It's how I decided on Sewage Worker! :D

Come Monday, I probably won't be posting as much anymore.

I'll still post here, just not as often during the day.

Math. Science. Band.

Yeah, my school doesn't get very in-depth by means of courses. (Well, okay, it's Pre-calc and Chemistry. But y'know, no Organic Chemistry.)

Meh, I haven't had much luck with jobs, either. I thought I could get hired by Gamestop, since I know enough about games and have spent enough time there that other shoppers have come up to me thinking I'm *already* working there. I tried Play N' Trade, too, but they were completely out of applications from so many people trying to apply. There aren't many jobs available for Computer Science majors here, so I'm left with either applying at the local military base or at my local newspaper.

Baseball is very popular in Japan. Certainly more popular in Japan than, say, football or basketball. One of their teams shows up here to train during the off-season often, since this island is fairly close by and never sees snow. I forget the name of the team...

Oh god, don't remind me. The Warhammer Online collector's edition preorders went live the other day, so I rushed out to get me a copy. I don't mind ordering online if I have to, but I prefer going to the store when I can. Anyhow, when I made it to the Gamestop store and asked about the preorder package, the following conversation ensued:

ME: "Hello, I'd like to preorder the Warhammer Online collector's edition."
EMPLOYEE: "There isn't any game like that."
ME: "Yes there is. It has a big banner on your web page."
EMPLOYEE: "Oh wait, do you mean the 'Dawn of War: Soulstorm' expansion?"
ME: "No, I mean Wahammer Online: Age of Reckoning Collector's Edition. I want to preorder it."
EMPLOYEE: "We don't have that game."
ME: "That's because it's not being released until fall. Hence 'preorder.'"
EMPLOYEE: "... Do you mean 'Dawn of War: Soulstorm?' We have that one."

At that point I gave up and walked out of the store. I ended up ordering it online. And not from Gamestop, either.

Yes, it's popular in Japan, but MLB doesn't have any teams in Japan. The games came on over here at like 3 in the morning. Who's gonna stay up to watch that? Should the opening series cater to the fans and not serve as some sort of goodwill gesture?

Sitting in the dugout, standing around waiting for a ball to come to you, standing on base waiting for someone to get a hit... these things are very physically demanding. Almost as much as playing darts or going bowling. Baseball is the most boring, least entertaining game I have ever seen. If fat 90 year olds can play it while intoxicated, it's a joke.

And yes, I've said that casually and baseball fans get all pissed off. It's fair to say it's stupid if you disagree with it, but to get upset is kind of funny.

I forgot to mention something. I retook the SAT tests and got a 1960. Previously I received an 1890. I did 20 points better on critical reading (now a still very low 570), 50 points better on writing (now a decent 650), and the same on math (740). I actually did worse on the essay -- this time I got a 6 opposed to last time's 7 (of 12).

Baseball players have to work just as hard if not harder than people of other sports. It may not be as athletically demanding (for some positions), but it requires so much more skill and especially great reaction times and the ability to move very quickly.

Also, if you want it to be enjoying, you really have to understand the complexities and the strageies.

If fat 90 year olds can play it while intoxicated, it's a joke.I'm not being sarcastic or anything, but I would really love to see a fat, drunk, 90-year-old play baseball. That would just be great.

In any case, while I am just a casual player, I agree that baseball is boring to watch. Playing, on the other hand, is great. I really enjoy the game, if I'm on the field. Then again, I've never been a very good spectator. I'd rather be out there having fun than be sitting on a cold plank of wood twenty feet above the ground watching others have fun.

Though, for the sake of argument, I don't know of many non athletes that can throw a ball with deadly precision at over 90 miles an hour.

Not as physically demanding? Have any of you ever SEEN a MJL baseball player? Their arms probably weigh more than some of you do.

And an NFL lineman's calf probably weighs more than some of us. Complete exaggeration, but the point is there.

I don't like baseball for a few reasons. One, it's miserably boring to watch. Two, the only way they try to make it interesting is by regurgitating insanely detailed statistics to viewers. Three, baseball revolves around an incredibly precise degree of succeeding or failing; that is, hitting a tiny ball going 90 mph. Swing too high? Strike. Swing too low? Strike. Swing too early? Strike or foul. Swing too late? Strike or foul. I'd rather watch or play a sport that something happens every minute.

Typical baseball game in (then) Jacob's Field in Cleveland, Ohio, a few years ago, even though this isn't a picture of the field:

http://flakmag.com/sports/images/bravesfans.gif

Typical football game:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v125/PokeMaster/IMG_36511.jpg

Plus, take high school sports. Baseball and soccer games have mostly parents of the players, basketball games have a few non-parents, but football games are packed with townsfolk.

Like Football? In Football it usually seems to go like this. Ohh, ohh, ohh, cheer for 15 seconds, annnnnd wait for 5 minutes, and Ohhhh ohhh ohh, cheer for twenty seconds, and wait around for 6 minutes. Not saying Baseballs faster, but Football isn't exactly a constant stream of action either.

Wow Pineconn, I didn't realize that you were so unreasonable. Baseball has 162 games a year, how many does football have? Nowhere near that. Not only that, but you pick a picture where THEY AREN'T EVEN PLAYING YET! That's right, they're either prepping the field or cleaning it up.

Also, could the fact that more people go to high school football games be the result of always having games on Friday nights? Most high school baseball games are weekday afternoons.
