View Full Version : Anyone notice the QDB lately?

...It's making progress! I think we can actually download quests in an easier manner now!

Go to the QDB Main List. Or, for you lazy people (like me), you can click here (http://zeldaclassic.armageddongames.net/qdb.php). You will notice that the list is in fact up and running. However, if you click on a quest, you will get the expected

IN_PORTAL_AREA, THIS_SCRIPT or VB_AREA must be defined to continue

to appear. Now, wait. Place "qdb/" between "net/" and "viewquest" in the url and hit Go. Scroll down through all the jargon and, viola, there is all the quest information. Click on the quest download link and you'll get a "Page not found" message, but, this time, remove "qdb/" from the URL and click Go. Bam!

So all this means that the QDB is making progress. Of course, it's all thanks to War Lord.

P.S. I have no idea how I figured all that out in less than 5 minutes. :p

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I've been prayin' for
It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

Look all around, there's nothin' but blue skies
Look straight ahead, nothin' but blue skies

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

Awsome, glad to see the database is back online :D
Now maybe I can make ZCR focus more on demos.

Not quite. The DB isn't right just yet. When it is back to the way it was then I would say it's fixed. But as of right now, people will need to "fake" it to get it to work, which isn't the way it should be.

New people won't figure this out so, let's just let War Lord do his work.

atleast we can see the quests again that are in it if someone sees a quest that he want to have then they always can ask ( if they can't figure out the link )
if someone can put on the link for them ;)
We are a little step closer :)

I'll have the database operational again soon.

I'll also have more details soon.

I'm hoping within the next week.

Just one question War Lord.

Who's gonna run it when it's fixed?

W...wow... after all this time looks like the QDB will be up and running again...

Now how awesome is that! :)
I just hope they find a good and capable person to run the QDB.

Pineconn

Amazing, isn't it? :D

For sure there needs to be more than one person running the site. Therefore one (or some) will be able to revise the site, and one (or some) will be able to add quests. And they need to be active. (Realizing that he's sounding somewhat bossy, Pineconn stops typing and posts his reply.)

Yeah, I have to agree with you. It would be best to maybe even build a (small) team of people to manage the quest database, all with paticular things to offer. Some could specialize with things such as actually keeping the database online...while other people are more better with simply adding quests and such. Just a thought ;)

Still going to need a little time on this.
As it stands, current ZC moderators will probably be the ones updating and approving.

I'll keep you guys updated.

Sounds great to me. There seem to be a fair amount of ZC mods (around 7 or so, some of which are very active), so that would work well. And the timing works well, as my quest is nearing completion. ;)

Some Turks seem to have hacked the main site, too:

Sure, it doesn't affect the QDB, but it's still bad.

Sure, it doesn't affect the QDB, but it's still bad.

There was a major hack a while back when all of AGN went down for a while and that's the page you would see when you tried to enter the forums. I wonder if that hack resulted in the problems with the QDB. That may explain why it suddenly was having problems and why it may not be an easy fix if they messed with it.

I doubt it.

The issue didn't arise until the upgrade in '05 late December. It was right after AGN came back on after the upgrade that DB became corrupt. Not to the point to where it is now, but corrupt.

Then Eckels was informed that the QDB was fucked up and he attempted to fix it. Shortly after his main page post about the DB being in repair, it went down to the point that you see now.

And that is where it stands.

I honestly believe that it was the upgrade that started the mess. Not the hack. The hack came about 6 months afterward.

Actually, the hack came in January '06, less than three weeks after the last successful submission on New Year's Eve the previous year. I remember quite well, because it was on my birthday.

I'm getting there. I was going to get the Zelda Classic theme working with all of it so it would mesh with the site but I think I'll worry about getting it up and functional and then worry about theme integration.

I do apologize for the delays, but it is on it's way.

Pineconn

I swear, every time you post reassuring news like this, I always get really happy. :) I do agree, functionality, then the appearance.

I don't even really remember when AGN was down in great detail, other than the place came to a hault after the conflict was resolved.

Nicholas Steel

wouldn't you NEED to do the technical stuff first before implementing a theme anyways?

why does no one put quests up @ this spot?

elise

because since the database is down people just stopped making them available here or do it just in a thread on the forum ,or on purezc or just on their own webside get all bugs out when the players mention them ...........and hopefully put them in the database when that one starts working again

Well... I have a feeling that in some point in the time continuum that the ZC.com QDB will be hustlin' and bustlin' again. But that point may be a very long time from now. I would love to tinker with the site for a few days to iron out all of the errors.
