The Child Online Protection Act has been struck down (http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/03/22/1424223) by a federal judge.

Can we please start posting boobies now?

Hahah, I think they should re-evaluated the decision.

Kids need to be protected from those boobs.

0_0 Removing the COPA? Not a good idea...the amount of...erm..."nasty" images on the net will probably leap up dramatically, and we'll end up seeing distasteful images even if we Google something totally unrelated!

but...man...:P Beldaran, you sure know how to make a fellow nerd laugh.

If it bothers you that much, install a filter.

Man, I remember when I was 17 my mom found out I looked at vanilla/softcore porn sites and sobbed endlessly for months and then installed a filter and wouldn't take it off until I was 19 and then was mad forever. Good thing she doesn't know what I look at now!

Yeah seriously. I was raised in a hard core evangelistic christian home. Being intellectually incorrigible, I started looking at porn whenever I got the chance, basically as soon as the internet was invented and I knew how to dial a BBS service. If my mother could take a tour of my hard drive today, she would probably suffer a stroke.

I googled "Triforce" under images, and got an image of 3 people in an oral-to-you-know-where triangle, with the triforce in the center. I think it's still there too..... :odd: :computer:

My parents don't care what I look at. They just don't want to hear about it.

Yes, I do agree that if you do not use a filter, you are asking for trouble, but having no restrictions whatsoever is not a very good plan...

Act or no, I'd prefer if porn was kept to clearly marked porn sites (which I have no problem with as long as I can stay away from them). AGN is, well, a forum dedicated to video gaming among other things.

The ASWGL subforum is clearly marked:

Warning: This forum contains sexually explicit content, please do not enter if you don't want to be subjected to such material.
And that's how I think things should be done. (I don't enter there, if anyone wants to know)

As to the boobie posting, I wouldn't mind that being kept to a certain non-public subforum.

Is boobie posting currently allowed in the ASWGL forum?

Honestly, I would assume that people would be smart enough to know that if you click a link labeled "NOT SAFE FOR WORK!" that they shouldn't click it if they're not in an environment which can safely support such an image being on their monitor. The poster did their part by posting the message, so then it's time for the reader to heed the message that should be obvious.

Technically, that rule could even be applied anywhere. "You have control over what you click on." Perhaps not by automated processes such as school systems scanning webpages before they load, but you certainly do. At worst, keep it in the ASWGL forum. No big deal.
