You know on walkmans and stereos, Why do they have to have the cassette door window so dark like sunglasses lens instead of clear window that makes it hard to see the tape remaining? This question always ponders me.

Possibly aesthetics. When the rest of the tape player is dark it might look kind of tacky to have the remaining tape visible.

or looking at the tape mechanism while its in action can cause blindness.
