Cool. I'll give this a try when I get time. Thanks.

you shouldn't have posted direct links to the files everywhere on the forums... you should be linking people to a thread with the downloads so that you can update the thread and keep all links pointing to the newest update.

unless you did do this

If there are still problems under linux let me know. Except the no music issue :p

In re the sound issue under Linux, the best I can determine is that the sound files are in sfx.dat, which the 'file' command tells me is an Allegro datafile.

Does that mean I need to install Allegro (for sound in particular, or ZC quest programming in general). And which file do I copy or symlink to the zc2102lin directory to get sound working?

Allegro is 3.1 meg download size. Seems a lot when I just need one small part. But, if I gotta do it, then I gotta do it.

Thanks for the linux build.
About the no sound issue I get this message while running:

ALSA lib rawmidi_hw.c:233:(snd_rawmidi_hw_open) open /dev/snd/midiC0D0 failed: No such file or directory
Maybe this info can help with the issue.

Ok, googling around, I found a workaround:

It works for me.

I've toyed around with ZC on my sister's Windows PC, but she's off to the other side of the world so I'd like to know what my options are.

My specs:
400MHz G3 PowerPC
128MB DDR
Radeon 9250 128MB
AC97 audio

My setup is Linux only, though I'm able to emulate

MacOS 7-9 with MOL (native speed, quite usable) :D
MacOS X with MOL (native speed but 400MHz/128MB makes it crawl) :(
DOS with QEMU (100MHz 486/586, usable) :)
Windows95 with QEMU (66MHz 486, horrible)

I see there's a linux binary available, albeit x86 only. Will there be a PPC build or is the source code available for porting?

A) you require a x86 compliant processor and B) ZC will remain closed source for a few more years at least.

In my linux box, this binary crashes after the Armageddon Games screen. If I disable sound it works, looks like it crashes when music would be played.

Is there a newer version of this?

Build 794 (http://www.shardstorm.com/zc/alphas/794-linux.tar.gz) is the latest. Go ahead and try it.

Dammit, why don't I stay in Ubuntu when I'm just messing around on my computer. Damn you M$.

I'm going to try that new build right now.

Hmm still no music, but at least it doesn't crashes anymore!

Looks like there is a problema with music on the linux port... entering the "MIDI info" gui screen, the "listen" button is disabled too.

Thanks for the Linux port.

The only issue is that I am getting no sound at all. Runs just fine, no crashes like I have heard about. I have tried the "official" build from the OP and build 794 that you posted later, same results. I am not getting any error messages about the audio in terminal.

I am running Ubuntu Hardy 8.04. It may be a issue with Pulse Audio that they started using with Hardy. I am not even seeing the stream in the audio manager.

What audio does this use (OSS,ALSA,SDL)? I'd like to get this working as I love the classic Zelda's and would love to play all these new quests.

Thanks for any help, and if you need any more info please let me know.

Did you ever find the solution to this problem? I am running it on Debian 5.0. Seems to run great but missing the Zelda music. I love that music. Please let me know if you fixed it.

Aw, the original post's links are junked.

Atleast the 794 build works. Any updates on this? Still no sound... :(

This is pretty old. The newest Linux build is 1287. Get it from shardstorm.com (http://shardstorm.com/).

Same here. Rise of Ganon cannot be completed without 2.10., 2.50 won't do it.

EDIT: Been using the Lost Isle build of ZC found here:
http://www.zeldaclassic.com/viewquest.php?q=316
There are still quirks, but so far these quirks are not quest stoppers.
