Save points?

I hope you dont mind me asking but... How do save points work? Usually when i use them yes.. It does say save or quit but when i continue it doesnt start in the room where the saving point was... Somone gimme a little heads up here?

I think it continues from where you set the greeen square, if you set that in another room for any reason
