I was looking on amazon.com for the price and availability of the PS2's and came up with the following 2 items: 1) Sony Playstation 2 Console Slim PS2 & 2) Sony PlayStation 2.

What's the difference between the two? The prices are the same.

thanks y'all...

from wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_2):
In September 2004 Sony unveiled its third major hardware revision (V12, model number SCPH-70000). Available in November 2004, it is smaller and thinner than the old version and includes a built-in Ethernet port. In some markets it also integrates a modem. Due to its thinner profile, it does not contain the 3.5" expansion bay, and therefore does not support the internal hard disk drive but due to the presence of USB 1.1 ports an external USB Hard disk can still be used (but not for games that require an internal HDD), and now uses an external power supply, like the GameCube.

The Slim has a top you can open to put games in, while the original uses the traditional cd tray slider.

Also, here is a visual. I couldn't find two images of the same size.

Also worth noting: the slim PS2 doesn't play some PS2 games correctly. How that's considered acceptable, I have no idea. Fortunately, most of the games affected aren't worth playing anyway, and I'm sure the problems really aren't that bad. The slim PS2 also has more problems with PS1 games, but again, they're generally not good games anyway. In any case, it's something to be aware of.
The lists of games with compatibility issues:

Resident Evil 2 and other known PSX games have problems actually. You should get the original FAT PS2. The Slim PS2s are made in china, and pieces of shit.

Breaker... obviously.

Gbabe... thank you. It never dawned on me to check wiki before I posted my question.

Saffith... thank you as well. That's basically the information I was looking for. IE: game incompatibility and etc.

Mottzy... :) <hug> thanks hon. That's also what I was looking for... which one was better. :)

slim ps2 fixes a bug in metal gear and its expansion -.-' if your ever after it -.-' meaning the game on the fat ps2 wouldnt allow hot swapping discs where as on the slim one it does... this is for i think revision 15?
