A few of my friends and my physics teacher and I set up a similar experiment using a burette (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burette) and a stroboscope (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroboscope). The strobe had a frequency dial on it, and so, by manipulating the rate at which water came out of the burette and by manipulating the frequency of the strobe, we could easily produce a similar effect. It was inbelieveably rad to be able to manually splash a drop that was frozen in mid-air, and then un-splash it. We could effectively "control the flow of time" by turning the dial on the stroboscope or the tap on the burette. It was splendid.

That's definitly cool, though the occasional mis-time of the drops/flash breaks the illusion. Still, the fact that somone actually came up with this is pretty neat

It's not that bad, really. You just set the burette's tap and then tune the frequency of the stroboscope until it syncs up. It's not very hard.
