Can't get gamepad to work

Im using a gamepad with ZC however I can't get the D-pad to work. The joystick will works fine but link is a little hard to control with that. Any idea on how to get the D-pad to work? Also I was considering getting a modified NES control (NES control with USB plug) Anyone use these with ZC?

Well I can't help you with the joypad problem, but if you already have an NES controller, I'd skip getting the modified NES controller in favor of a plug that plugs into ANY NES controllers you have, and has a USB plug on the other end of it. In other words, a USB/NES plug that plugs into your NES controllers and turns them into USB controllers. :p
