Is this serious? are these literally biologically engineered pets? Like... actually alive?
This seems cool, but it makes me a little uncomfortable.

EDIT...
I'm not sure if this is starting to cross even my agnosticish moral lines.
I'm still thinking about it, but have you guys heard about this chimera shit? Read this article, about crossing animal and human DNA...
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2005/01/0125_050125_chimeras_2.html

It's insane.
I do not look forward to new "races" of half-humans on our planet. Would something like that be right?

Can this possibly be for real?

I like that their registration page says "you must be logged in to continue."

Eh, I don't know if I'd want one. They're pretty ugly. Sorta look like turkey/dog/human hybrids. It'd be one thing if they grew into something less hideous, but it says they don't...

I can't believe people are actually asking if they're real.

Why is that hard to believe? This is kind of a radical product to be introduced to the market so quickly, with nothing similar out.

What will they think off next? Soon they'll be growing babies and putting them on shelves for people to purchase. "The LED on the package states the health staus of the baby within.."

Yeah, ok. Although, it could end up with the tickle me Elmo craze.http://www.mazeguy.net/happy/laughing.gif

I hope noone thinks this is real. Notice how the website has no pictures of it in action?

/me stares blankly at the screen.

these better not be real, or this technology will end up getting seriously abused before you can say "bob's your uncle".

Still, a lot of thought went into the whole thing. :)

Yes.

Not only that, when you look at the pictures, the thing looks like rubber. I looked all over that website for a picture of the thing OUT of the package, and didn't find one. That right there told me it was fake.

:shakeno: So sad, some of you people are...

I get the point. It was stupid but it's supposed to be poignant.

It's just too stupid to actually be poignant. And the amount of work that someone (or god forbid 'group of people') put into it make it even stupider.

I know it was a hoax, but, what was it supposed to be? Like a Furby or something? The web site wasn't very clear.

Like furby meets a kitten. Except way uglier.
Man that's stupid. Is that national geographic article bullshit, too? Because that's still an intriguing article, regardless of how stupid this hoax is.

The faked enthusiasm by the kids was more than enough for me to realize how insane this is. But then again, by virtue of my 56k, I can't just click links before the page loads.

My first thought, if you're interested (and you probably aren't), was of Re-Pet from the Sixth Day (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0216216/).
