question concerning items

Just wondering if it is possible to have Link obtain certain items other than the Triforce Pieces, like the Pendants in A Link to the past, or the Pearls in Wind Waker?

Well, you can change the sprite of the triforce (fragment) Item and change the subscreen, too, but you cana't make each one a different thing/color/etc.

Cool, how would one go about changing the subscreen to incorporate more items?
