View Full Version : I remember this plan to return AGN to its former glory

So like... What the fuck happened to it? Solaris was the only one I remember talking about it. And he's been axed from super-admin. So whether he planned on doing anything or not doesn't matter. Are we getting a mainpage back? News team? Affiliates? Cocks? Hell, I'll bust out a mainpage in my spare time if that will help at all.

imo, the only thing that needs fixing around here is the main page, ZC.com, and SE. the rest is fine, i think.

I hereby volunteer myself to be part of the Super Trustworthy AGN Action News Team, or STAGNANT. We'll revolutionize the internet.

I'm in agreement with you, Masa. The new staff thing was nice, but from what I can see, the movement sorta fizzled out after that happened. So the question is, what exactly is being done with AGN these days?

Just so this doesn't turn into one of those things where people will talk about it but never fucking do it (we all know that shit happens a lot), I'm gonna show some initiative and get to work on a mainpage right now. :O

A+ for commitment, Masa. I'd actually be interested, however serious the idea was or not, in being part of an internet news team. God only knows the debates we have around here could actually use some facts once in a while.

A game reviewing task force would be a neat idea. Maybe we could drum up some site traffic that way, if we could get some decent reviews up and some popular sites to link to us.

We used to have a news staff. The recent news staff topic was a bump from way the fuck long ago. CtrlAltDelete I think was looking into starting something, but I dunno how that's coming.

Well, I guess we'll have to get him in on this. The idea is intriguing, to say the least. Gaming should probably be the focus, but we would also need an entertainment/media reporter or two, and someone for general news, who could seek out stories that could spark discussion, whether for intellectual or comedic value. A small force, six or eight people, would probably be adequate to start, and from there, we could bring on new people as needed by the community.

bam thats the straight skinny

Work on the Zc.com site has been financed and to the best of my knowledge is being carried out so thats soon to be fixed and no telling what else is in the works ...You guys have been throwing the words "former glory" around a lot lately, but really what do you mean when you say that?

Even without any updates from the big hush hush staff rooms and such, I'd say things are churning out pretty swell stuff. (Arr, shatter me grammar with a hammer.) I'd still say that AGN has changed quite a bit in the last four months, in so many ways. The staff actually has had a large makeover, particularly in bringing some of AGN's kindest members up to bat to fight for the li'l people and make them feel at home. Then you've got all the changes made in ZC and SE, and the main page being brought back, ... ... it's amazing.

I will sort of miss those custom frontpages. Those were so cool.

I've been trying to figure that out for awhile. AGN is pretty much the same now as it was then.

Didn't you guys here? We're changing it to Armageddon Gangsta Network. ;)

Pretty much. I don't really see what all is very different. I think some people are just bored or something.

I think you answered your own question there.

If he was the only one talking about it he may have gotten the axe before he told us what he had in store for AGN. Thus the reasoning nothing major has gone into the works(If there is plans) In my eyes we need to get SE going though I wish I could help alot more but I dont know 2 shits about programming.

FYI, for the general public, SE is going quite well actually. I think it's the most active it's been in years. It's not dead, not by a long shot.

Well lets make a super duper ultimate plan to glory involving ninjas! Cause that's really what we need to do right? AGN needs it own pack of Ninjas that go around flipping out and kicking people's asses.

Dark Panther is MIA. No ninja related activity can happen on AGN without his presence.

Alexmax was pretty cool in the old days, but right before his disappearance, he got really snarky and negative towards everyone.

I guess this is the pot calling the kettle black, but still.

If you're asking me, I'm assuming it's back when AGN was an entire site and not just forums. I'm just calling the idea what I remember it being called in the past. So quit jumping down my fucking throat about it. I'm just trying to help out with something.

... ... What the ... ...

Well, IMHO, in terms of what the site "used to be," ... ... It's Armageddongames Network. It needs games. It's been developing the same two games for three years, six years, ... A few little games here and there, ... but other than that, it's been pretty much a chatting community. Perhaps it could look for more games to host?

Dechipher
07-06-2006, 12:51 AM
Most games just fizzle away and die down. Personally I think it's better to focus what capable people we have on the current projects, ie ZC and SE. SE is actually going places, it just needs more committment, from higher and lower people, though not neccesarily the players, yet.

However, drawing in more people who are familiar with game design IS a good idea.

I think what people meant by "former glory" was back when there was a main page, a ZC website, a quest database, about half of the mods didn't defect to some radical group devoted to obsessing over AGN's demise, and some other stuff.

People are chasing a warm fuzzy that has been long gone. This site is what you make of it, and I will be 10 to 1 that right now at least somebody is living in what they will look upon as "former glory". It's all relative. Also, by "former glory", people obviously mean turn AGN into GU, which isn't going to happen.

Bah, I'm never gone forever, and although I may not be here, I'm still active somewhere on this little island internet. But I know that AGN is a place I can always come back to and feel at home. I still pop in from time to time.

Uh.. huh? What forum have you been going to? There's been a main page, a ZC website, a quest database, and the people that ran away to "destroy AGN" weren't mods. There's no former glory, AGN's the same as it always has been. I think people are just outgrowing it.

Here's a question. Is anyone aware that Mythotical has quit? That there is nobody working on the main page, the ZC website, or the quest database?

Technically it's not the same. The same time last year those sites were running perfectly fine. Now the DB is messed up, with infrequent updates and the main page has outdated information and broken links.

Personally, if those were fixed I would say that AGN is back to the way it was. But they aren't. So, technically AGN ISN'T the same.

The way I see it, the only way to get AGN back to it's "former glory" is to start trafficking porn again. After all, this is the Awesome Porn Network, right?

Wait... It's not? Fuck. That explains them death threat emails.

Seriously, you need a hook. YOu need something to reel in members, and not n00bs who want to make thier own Zelda's and/or play SE. I have contacts in the Russian Mafia. I'll see what I can do.

Dechipher
07-08-2006, 11:41 AM
Yeah, because all people who want to play our games are n00bs.

koopa

I agree with Decipher here (so I must be a n00b).

I'm actually quite pleased with how things are run at the moment - AGN is, like how may years old? Six? More? Anyway, it's still here and no sign of it closing down any time soon.

ZC is on a new beta, that will hopefully soon result in a new final version (yeah, I should put more work into it. That's precisely what I'll do this summer) and SE seems to have a completely new build in the works too.

Plus, people get older, and their interests change - that applies to the AGN staff too. It's only good if a website/forum changes a bit over time ... keeps up the interest.

So ends a n00b's view of AGN (I've only been here a year, so I don't know much about the "former glory") - but I'm happy with how things are, and as many new things are planned, even if we can't see them now, all the better.

elise
07-08-2006, 03:05 PM
I agree with a lot you say Koopa but with the ZC questdatabase not working ( since what is it Januari ) all new quests aren't gonna be available for the questplayers , and the ZC players get it elsewhere and the questions are also asked and answered elsewhere
If you want to keep AGN being the best and biggest site for the total ZC communite , it should be working and kept updated ;)

The only way there was a "former glory" was more people were posting. Regardless, steps should be taken to promote this site. I don't think we're really doing anything at the moment.
