Should I get animal crossing DS?

Basically... Is animal crossing DS worth getting? It looks kinda gay, to tell the truth. I love sim games, but I hated the sims.
I'm reading the Gamespot review... and it's either that or resident evil. Can someone describe this game to me, and why I'd want to play it?

From what I gather, if you liked the GC version, you'll enjoy this.
I also tend to go with IGN for reviews, where it did well also.

Never played the Gamecube version... and the review didn't really give me that good of an idea of what it plays like...

I'm everything Nintendo, so I got, and love it. I would suggest it as a good buy as well. In my opinion on how it plays, its a simulated MMO without combat. I guess you could imagine a single-player Sims Online perhaps. To me, the core concept for the game is collecting all the possible items, and customizing your own village. So thats about the best way I can discribe it.

I only got the GC version, but from what I gather, it's basically that on a portable console, so I'd recommend it.
