good. now maybe all the debates between the Sonic 3 and Michael Jackson fans will stop

haha, just being an ass. that is pretty interesting, though. didn't understand all that musical mumbo-jumbo, but I did get the point

I was wondering what the title meant. That was an interesting watch. The similarity at the end with the Icecap theme was astounding.

I spent the whole time straining to make out that guy's words under that horrible accent.

I agree. That guy's voice is fucking irritating. He randomly looses all his vocal strength and gets really quiet at odd rhythmic places. He speaks with no clarity or annunciation. It's like nails on a chalkboard. It sounds like he had a stroke or something.

It's all a coincidence. What the hell would Michael Jackson have to do with Sonic 3 anyway? How dare t(he)y besmirch my favourite track (Ice Cap) by comparing it to Who Is It! Blasphemer!

EDIT: Personally, I find THIS video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=cCTRlTYeFPk&search=sonic%20the%20hedgehog) much more interesting.

Nah, I'm prone to believe it is true. Reputable musicians are involved in video game music all the time. Didn't U2 do the music for Sonic 1 like it says in the credits?

Glenn, you have to be fucking kidding me. U2 can go straight to hell along with all the people who think they did the music for Sonic 1.

Masato Nakamura from the band 'Dreams Come True' did the music.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masato_Nakamura

"Nakamura also composed the music of the first two Sonic the Hedgehog games for the Sega Mega Drive."

U2 are not reputable musicians. They are no talent ass clowns.

U2 are the worst band ever and Bono needs to be put in a meat grinder.

as of 1990 yes ...eighties U2 can't be touched...

I believe the three chord progression similarities are too close to be considered coincidental. I enjoyed that video a lot.

I love watching speed-runs. Since speed is such a critical part of the entertainment value of Sonic games, that video was especially entertaining. Thanks for the link, DM.

BTW, U2 is one of the greatest rock bands to have graced my ears. Although I'm not too thrilled with anything released after the album Pop - that's just a failed attempt at trying to change their musical direction.

I sat and watched the speed run, and it is amazing. I learned some things I never knew about Sonic 1 (in particular that shortcut in Scrap Brain Act 1).

My bad on the whole U2 thing. "YU2" is the name of the programming team. It's only been maybe 8 years since I've seen the ending of this game.

I think the speed run is fixed. There are a few discrepencies in the amount of coins he has at certain points, making me think he died and restarted, but edited it out of the video.

I imagine it would be pretty frustrating to make a continuous speed-run, devoid of any such discrepancies to which Beldaran refers. These videos often take years to make.

Imagine this scenario: "Ok now I'm in world 6-4 of Super Mario Bros. Oh dang, if I had held the B button for a shorter time in world 3-3, I could have jumped differently and shaved 2 seconds off my time. Guess I'll start over at world 3-3." Unlikely scenario if you ask me, but if I were a creator of such a video, I would want my performance in world 3-3 to be as flawless as possible, so I would fix my mistake and not worry about the continuity of the rest of my video.

The speed-run was done on an emulator, so it's not hard to prove that it's 'fixed'. Still pretty impressive though. Gonna see if I can find some more for the other Sonics.

I was impressed with how mercilessly he crushes Robotnik at the end of each level, especially at the end of the Green Hill Zone.

Also, check the Labyrinth fight. In all the times I have played that fight, I have never gotten above Robotnik like he did.

Hey hey! I found one for Sonic 2 (http://speeddemosarchive.com/Sonic2.html). Just under 25 minutes, and just over 20 - bloody hell. There's also Sonic 3 & Knuckles (http://bisqwit.iki.fi/nesvideos/movies.cgi?id=331) and Sonic Advance (http://speeddemosarchive.com/SonicAdvance.html). These really are impressive, even if they are tool-assisted.

EDIT: Found Sonic Advance 2 (http://bisqwit.iki.fi/nesvideos/movies.cgi?id=468) as well.
