Quick Sims Q

Ok, I have the original Sims for PC and all the Expansions and a few of my people have jobs that need :)s for them to get promoted, how do I get some :)s (I take it that means friends but what should I do?

Basically, you just talk to people who aren't already friends until they are. There are lots of random people wandering about downtown, so that's a good place to meet people. Once someone's your friend, call them once in a while, and maybe invite them over, so they don't forget you.
Each family member's friends are tracked separately, so a friend of one family member isn't automatically a friend of everyone in the family. However, if the same person is a friend of more than one family member, it still only counts as one friend.
