Yes, have a separate Dmap for this room, it must have a Level number higher than 0, make the room with the Great Fairy and have it as Room type: Special Item, press "a" and select the item you want the Great fairy to give to the player, Set a String and a guy (can be invisible).

If you're talking about an Item Pond, like in A Link to the Past, this is not possible. However, you can make a fairy give you an item, like firefly said.

You can also have a big fairy give you the double magic upgrade as well as offer to sell you a bomb upgrade--where your bomb maximum increases by 4.

BTw, this isn't done by having a Great Faery/Fairy give it to you. Hell, you don't even need the fairy. You can have a wall teach it to you. You have have a dog teach it to you. You can have a mailbox teach it to you. You can have your own left eyebrow teach it to you. You can have your unborn child teach it to you. You can have a mountain teach it to you. You can have the Hale-Bopp comet teach it to you. You can have -ME- teach it to you. ... ... ... (Etc. XD ) The Fairy is only a graphic. It doesn't matter at all.

What REALLY matters is how you learn the slash. There's A Room Type "Learn Slash" where if you even step into it, you instantly are able to use slash. Simple, huh. Maybe you could have a guy and a string in there, but I'm not sure that's even necessary. Try it either way. :shrug: (Remember, a Guy/String won't show up unless the level number of the Dmap you're on is greater than 0.)

Magic container pieces are attained by picking up a Magic Container item. Same with Heart containers.
