I have 2 dmaps, where one is a day dmap & the other is simply a copy of that map but with a night pallette & some differences. What differences would you like to see when the overworld changes from Day to Night & Night to Day?

For example, one major difference is what NPCs are on the overworld. During the day, there's a lot more people out about in the town & whatnot, but during night, instead of NPCs, there's usually enemies instead. However, some NPCs do only appear during night.

What sort of objects, puzzles, triggers, items, enemies, landscape, or whatever should appear at night as opposed to the day?

You could have areas you can only access by day, and areas you could only access by night, and for some you'd have to switch between the two a couple of times (think aLttP light/dark world).

You could make puzzles that are day/night themed, example: In the night you have to light torches, burn things to give light etc.

Another thing that springs to mind is have a torch on a "day" screen, and on the night screen at exactly the same place put a burn flag, but no torch, so you have to remember things in the day world to use them in the night world.

You can make nocturne enemy like ghost, bat, owl, rat, toad, wolf or others like you want.
You can say that "armos" are "mysterious statues which said to walk at the moon light"... Put an Armos Statue Tile in the DAY (which not turn into Armos).

Also you can put flowers item (for what you want) that only bloom in DAY and close in NIGHT.

You can make a "Rod" that read the dreams of NIGHT people.

You can add some weather changes in the DAY or NIGHT like raining in night on some area. Rain can bring "Snails" item lol (:googly: ) or what you want.
The strong rain can bring rivers that like cannot pass (without the ladder).
