Dark underground place! Woooh! Spooky!

Hi! I need to make a room that is dark because it is underground and the only thing that lights it up are torches with a yellow thing round them on the transparent layer. The yellow thing is the light they give off. Anyway, I have tried full tiles of yellow, black, white and three different shades of grey and put them on transparent layer five, but I can't get it to look dark. What colour should I use?
Here are my only colour choices (call the top colour number 1 and the bottom one number ):
60, 48, 24,
52, 52, 48,
52, 32, 24,
48, 48, 44,
56, 40, 20,
60, 52, 40,
40, 40, 40,
36, 16, 20,
0, 0, 8,
0, 36, 32,
44, 24, 20
24, 28, 28,

56, 36, 32,
and 24, 8, 20.

Please help.

Have you tried making multiple transparent layers of black? For example, If you made layer 5 all black and transparent, but saw it wasn't dark enough, try making layer 6 all black as well. If you look at the dungeon screenshot in my sig, the water is double layered like that so you dont see the dungeon floors, but you can still see Link.
