I remember seeing a Doom set for the PC some years ago. It had Doom 1 & 2, Final and Ultimate Doom, as well as some custom levels and a level editor. Does anyone have it? Is it still out there somewhere?

Last time i looked around, they had a copy of it at my work. It was around $20AU (~$15US). So it's still out there.

Yeah, just go to your local Wal*Mart and get it; it's $10; that's where I got it from.
Here's what it includes -
Ultimate Doom
Doom II - Hell on Earth
Final Doom
Previews for Doom 3, an icon set, and a few Doom 3 wallpapers

It doesn't have extra levels or an editor, though; and what really bites me is that it doesn't include the DOS ports...

Who needs a DOS port? There are now high tech ports out there. See http://www.liberatedgames.org/game.php?game_id=9 for more info. You can even download the shareware version of the game. Just copy the DOOM.EXE to the necessary directory to get a DOS port.

That's because I'm a DOS junkie, I prefer commandline altreations to the game instead of the gui Doom95 uses. Besides, I have a few wads that need access to doom.exe in order to work...

On that same website, there is a link to the shareware version, which contains the same DOS EXE that is used by the full versions (except Ultimate DOOM). If the WAD files in question have a DEHACKED file with them, most sourceports have DEHACKED file support (and with some, particularly ZDoom, you can even put the .deh file into the WAD as a lump named DEHACKED and ZDoom will automatically use it.)

But if you want to play Doom 2, TNT, or Plutonia, or whatever other file, you need those wad files. Most user maps are Doom 2, and its 13Mb for the Doom2 wad file, if you can find it floating around on the internet.

That's not what he was talking about. There is no question that Doom95 is garbage, but there are other source ports that have come out since the Doom source was released that are much better, and have things like DEHACKED support (which is missing from Doom95, IIRC), no FPS cap (Dos DOOM was capped at 35 frames per second), freelook and jumping, bugfixes, and all that good stuff.

Some nice ports...

ZDoom (http://zdoom.org/):I think this port really sucks because although it has tons of new features it is broken to the point of not being able to play demos and it has a lot of stupid physics changes. However, this port has tons of nifty features like mouselook and jumping and probably has the highest installed userbase, so whatever.
PrBoom+ (http://prboom-plus.sourceforge.net/): If you're looking for DOS Doom compatability, this is where you want to be. This port is based on PrBoom, which was in turn based on Boom, TeamTNT's cordinated revision of the Doom source code.
Doomsday (http://www.doomsdayhq.com/): If you want to play Doom with OpenGL support, this is the undisputed champ of making Doom look like a homemade Quake 2 knockoff. Personally, I don't very much care to play vanilla doom with it, since things look terribly out of place, but this is the engine used for the Doom 64: Absolution (http://www.doom2.net/~doomdepot/abs-download.html) total conversion, so if you never played Doom 64 and wanted to know what you were missing (Hint: it's a fantastic game, and what Doom 3 should have been), then this is the source port for you.

Heh, I have Doomsday installed on my computer. To elaborate what I said earier, I've found a few wads that "install" and alter the exe file. I guess I'll have to find versions of em that are the straight wad and deh files. I'll have to try PrDoom+ to see what it's like and see how it handles.

*goes to get the Doom 64 conversion and prepares to waste many hours blasting demons tonight*

Just a little added note from me.

Speaking of Doom 64. That is one of my favorite Doom games, and one of my favorite Nintendo 64 games. It would defintely be worth the download. I think this Doom game goes under the radar due to the fact if was on Nintendo 64, but its really great.

Yeah, but I *NEED* (underlines 50,000 times) that level editor!!!!
When the box set came out it was $96. I guess I should just go to E-Bay...

Do you have a Wal*Mart remotely close to you? Because you can get the box set I mentioned earler, then you can search for editors over the net for *free*. Once in a while I use XWE for ripping sounds, gfx, ect straight from the wads. (of course, you could also use it to edit levels, lol)

I don't ever remember seeing Doom Collectors Edition for anything more than $20. I got my copy for $9.

And forget about yuor level editor. Just use Doom Builder (http://www.codeimp.com/builder_info.php). It's a recent editor, and it's updated rather frequently, though the latest verison is kinda unstable (If it crashes a lot for you, a link to 1.66 is on the DB Forums, you're not missing out on much)

If you need some decent singleplayer levels to play through, I recomend Alien Vendetta (http://www.doom2.net/~av/). If you're looking for some Deathmatch action, give my clan's set of deahmatch maps: UDM3 (http://www.unidoom.org/?p=udm3) a spin.

You beat me to it Alex.

Out of the few Doom editors I've used, this one is my favorite.
How about Real-Time 3D view. I don't know of any other that let you view the level while in the editor. Maybe there are others, but frankly I dont' care. This was the first I tried that had it, so I stuck with it.

It makes it really easy to align textures.
