How do I get joystick support to work?

I finally got 2.1 to work, period. I ended up w/ DOS on my XP machine but hell, it works. But it will not recognize my gamepad at all (Can't reset buttons or use the d-pad). The gamepad is a crappy Saitek P150 8-button make, the setup didn't accept it. Any suggestions? Mak

Get a program like joytokey (http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/JoyToKey%20English%20Version.htm)that intercepts joystick presses and converts them to keystokes.
