View Full Version : Preferred Forum Viewing Style?

Remember the old style of viewing threads, where peoples' avatars and such were viewed on the left of the forums? (I think that was called "Legend," at least according to the vBulletin ACP. I'm probably wrong though.) We had that permanently back in vBulletin 2.#. Now that we're in 3.# and above, we've got the other ability to have that information on the top of the posts as well.

So I'm asking you all: Which method do you prefer? If given a choice, which would you take? If AGN (If!) had to remain with one or the other, which would you prefer they stick with?

I voted to avatar and info on the left. Though I was very partial to SB's "minimalist" post bit style, which hasn't been available for some time :(

Avatar and Info On The Left Of The Post!

I'm just used to it. It's my choice. Too bad the "classic posting style" doesn't work at the moment.

Avatar & info on the left of the post, I think it could look better.

I go with the avatar on top. THat way when I'm scrolling down I can see whos post is coming up, a post which I may or may not want to read.

i dont have an avatar but the 'classic style' just sounds like a cooler name so i chose that.

I agree with Archibaldo, it helps to see who posted it before you acutally read it. Then again, im just use to it like this because its the default.

I prefer on the left. For some reason, regardless of which choice I make in my options, the postbits always appear on top. Is this happening for all of you too?

Top. When they made that change in vBulletin I liked the idea of trying something different.

What I don't like about Top is that all of your info is either all the way on the left, or all the way on the right, with a big void inbetween. Left Style seems to make better use of space.

Left. Avatars and other clutter on the top slows my skimming through the text of posts.

Right on top. It has a nice feel to it and I tend to prefer it then at other boards which have it to the left.

Yes, and it's driving me insane.

Left. Though best would be if both options were available. On the left is better for viewing short posts, the occaisonal really long post is I best viewed with the postbit on top.

I like it to the left.. People already have way to long of a signature so now there is several inches of screen devoted to someone saying what is often only one to two lines. Less scrolling please.

Yeah; the real hack here, is that the users can choose which style the want, I think. You can actually choose which style you'd rather have in the "vBulletin Options" area of the vBulletin ACP. It's just up to the AGN Administrators which style is the default style, at least until the hack can be reinstalled.

Judging by the poll, it seems that most people prefer it on the left. Thus, is this a "Majority Rule" thing, or "I like it the way it is" sort of thing.

I toldally agree. It's better to keep up in the left corner.

The solution here is to get the option in your CP to work so that you can choose whether you want to use Left or Top. Over at HaB, my styles can be viewed both ways. It isn't a hack, and I didn't have to do any special work to make it so. That's how it is supposed to be, and it makes everybody happy.
