Here's something fun to do with treasure chests: Make A bunch of 'evil chests', with the real one among them!

Here's what you do:

1) Make a combo that is the evil chest, except when not opened, it appears to be the same as a normal chest. Make it a 'treasure chest (normal)' combo.
2) Next to it, place the evil chest opened. I drew it so it looks like has teeth & evil eyes and is animated to look like its opening & closing/chomping. Make this a 'damage 1/2, 1, or 2' combo (and make it walkable)
3) Make combos with regular ground tiles. Make the first a 'treasure (normal, copycat) combo and the next combo a 'reset room' combo. (Both must be walkable) Place the copycat ground combo on the 2 spaces below where you place the 'evil treasure chest'
4) Make the normal treasure chest as usual and place flag #10 on it. Set the room type to special item and set the special item to whatever you want inside.
5) Don't forget to check the screen flag "items do not reset"

And whala! Whenever you open the fake item chests, you will get hurt instead, as a sorta trap. When you get knocked back from the damage, the chests will close again, which allows you to reopen any treasure chests, including the real one so you can grab the item.

If you are really clever, you can have closed chests (all identical in appearance) that continuously cycle so that when Link opens it, its either in the 'fake' stage (where he takes damage) or the 'real' stage, where he can get the item. This could maybe make it seem like what's inside the chest is 'random'.
