The flaw, which allows hackers to infect computers using programs
maliciously inserted into seemingly innocuous image files, was first
discovered last week. But the potential for damaging attacks increased
dramatically at the weekend after a group of computer hackers published the
source code they used to exploit it.

i never understood the 'fun' of making viruses. is the kid in his moms basement giggling because he damaged someones computer who spent their hard earned money getting. but why would they publish the code? is there such thing as being cool in the hacker community. kids these days need outdoor hobbies. build mini rocketships, skateboard, something!

LOL, some hackers actually run Windows and make viruses so they can push for updates, others just do it because they think it's funny. Oh, and this exploit affects EVERY VERSION OF WINDOWS !!! Ever. That's pretty... bad on Microsoft's part. (Too bad I use Mac/Linux)

I'd suggest updating your AV software.

Almost all famous hackers are later offered very high paying jobs by IT companies.

It took me two hours to update all the computers here at work... One of the computers in the service department is way super gay, ugh. All the other computers, besides NIck's, took about 30 seconds.

My auto-updater picked it up yesterday, and it was installed in about thirty seconds. Of course, I am aware of where I click and what I download, so I was never in any real danger anyway.

Not true with this problem. This was so dangeros because you didn't have to click or download anything. This virus was spread thru images loaded on a website, so unless you have all images disabled, you still would of been at risk.

Not necessarily. You just have to watch out what websites you visit.

Someone could have embedded it into this very thread.
